Well, it was just a matter of time. The injury bug finally hit in a big way last week, seeing several big-name players go down. It is unfortunate, but part of the fantasy football world. Hopefully, you weren’t hit too hard and can tread water while your player(s) is out.

Here is the latest. And it is a long list. . . . .

David Njoku, TE, Browns. Njoku missed the game last week with an ankle injury and is out of practice to start the week. He is expected to miss another week of action, leaving Jordan Akins the starter for the Browns.

Isiah Pacheco, RB, Chiefs. Pacheco suffered a fractured leg last week and is expected to miss six to eight weeks of action. The Chiefs are likely going to go with a hot-hand approach at running back with Samje Perine and Carson Steele getting first shot at the job.

Rachaad White, RB, Bucs. White suffered a groin injury last week but was able to return to the game, which is a good sign for this week. He is practicing on a limited basis to open the week and could see his workload increase as the week progresses. White should be ready to go for the Week 3 game.

Keenan Allen, WR, Bears. Allen is dealing with a heel injury. He missed the Week 2 game and is out of practice to open the week. It is not looking good for him to play this week unless he has a big turnaround late in the week.

Josh Downs, WR, Colts. Downs has missed the first two games with an ankle injury but is making progress and expects to make his season debut this week. We aren’t sure how big of a role he plays but he could slide into the slot receiver role immediately for the Colts, giving him some fantasy value.

Joe Mixon, RB, Texans. Mixon suffered a sprained ankle last week and missed practice to open the week. He is considered day-to-day with the injury and still has a pretty good shot to play this week. He was able to return to the game last week after suffering the injury. Keep an eye on the practice notes to make sure he gets in some work before the week is out.

Jordan Love, QB, Packers. Love is progressing well on his sprained knee. He was expected to miss several weeks of action but there is optimism he returns this week, missing just a game. He is already practicing some to start the week, which is a good sign. The Packers won’t rush him back unless he is ready to go, but things are looking up right now.

Raheem Mostert, RB, Dolphins. Mostert sat out last week with a chest injury but is back practicing to start the week. He is expected to make his return to the lineup this week, barring some late-week setback. The week off did Mostert some good.

Justin Jefferson, WR, Vikings. Jefferson injured his quad last week but seems to have avoided something too serious. He doesn’t seem to be in much risk to miss the Week 3 game. We expect him to play and get his usual workload.

Jake Ferguson, TE, Cowboys. Ferguson is dealing with a knee injury and was forced to miss the game last week. He is back practicing this week, though, and looks on track to make his return. He was close to playing last week, so things looking good for a return in Week 3.

Justin Herbert, QB, Chargers. Herbert is dealing with some sort of ankle injury and was held out of practice Wednesday. This is a new injury, but we don’t think it is too serious. He is being rested as a precaution as much as anything. Look for him to practice some later in the week and play the Week 3 game. Just keep an eye on the practice notes to be sure.

Tyjae Spears, RB, Titans. Spears had to leave last week’s game early because of an ankle injury. He is not practicing to open the week and while the Titans don’t think the injury is too serious, he is in some danger of missing the Week 3 game. Make sure he gets in some practice before the week is out if you have any plans of playing him.

Deebo Samuel, WR, 49ers. Samuel suffered a calf strain last week and is expected to miss at least a few weeks of action. Jauan Jennings is expected to move into the starting lineup with Samuel out.

A.J. Brown, WR, Eagles. Browns was a late addition to the injury report last week because of a hamstring issue and had to miss the Week 2 game. He is not practicing to start the week. He will need to get in some practice if he hopes to play this week. At this point, we look for him to miss another week of action. Hopefully, this injury doesn’t linger too long for Brown. Plan on other options for now.

Nico Collins, WR, Texans. Collins is dealing with hip and foot injuries. He missed practice Wednesday, which is a little concerning. He looked just fine in his big Week 2 game. Hopefully, he is being held out as a precaution. As long as he is active, Collins is a must play for fantasy teams. We should know more about his status later in the week.

Jordan Addison, WR, Vikings. Addison missed the Week 2 game with his ankle injury. He remains sidelined with the injury and is not looking good to return this week. Jalen Nailor will have an expanded role in the offense while Addison is out.

Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams. Kupp is dealing with a pretty good ankle injury but hopes to return within four weeks. He has a long injury history, though, especially in recent seasons so this latest injury is a concern. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for him to get back to 100 percent.

Kenneth Walker, RB, Seahawks. Walker is dealing with an oblique injury that kept him out of the game last week. He remains out of practice and is not expected to return this week. This injury is really slowing him. Zach Charbonnet is expected to get another start for the Seahawks in Week 3.

DK Metcalf, WR, Seahawks. Metcalf had a huge game last week but apparently hurt his hand in the process. He missed practice Wednesday, which is a little concerning. Hopefully, he is just resting. We don’t think it is too serious, but keep an eye on the practice notes the rest of the week. As long as he gets in some sort of practice, look for him to be ready for Week 3.

Hot Plays, Fades and Sleepers: Week 3

Player Notes
Demario Douglas Sep 20 4:40am CT
Demario Douglas

New England Patriots wide receiver Demario Douglas turned nine targets into seven catches for 69 yards against the New York Jets on Thursday night. Douglas had been off to a quiet start this season, finishing Week 2 with zero targets and the third-most snaps among wide receivers on the team. However, he got more reps during practice leading up to the Jets game, and it seems to have paid off. The Liberty product connected with Jacoby Brissett early and often, and he also appeared to have a rapport with rookie Drake Maye. Douglas has managed to get back on the fantasy radar as a low-end WR4 heading into Week 4.

Garrett Wilson Sep 20 4:40am CT
Garrett Wilson

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson caught five of his nine targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3. Wilson hauled in his first touchdown pass of the season on a two-yard catch in the third quarter, giving the Jets a 20-3 lead. The veteran wideout also led the Jets in targets and tied for the team lead in catches on Thursday night, even though he only finished with 33 receiving yards. So far this season, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been content to spread the targets around in the Jets offense but Wilson remains the lead receiver in New York. Wilson will now have a few extra days to rest ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Rhamondre Stevenson Sep 20 4:40am CT
Rhamondre Stevenson

New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson rushed just six times for 23 yards during Thursday's loss to the New York Jets. The 26-year-old has logged at least 21 carries and one touchdown in each of the first two games this season, so his reduced opportunities and production in Week 3 was certainly a surprise. It should also be noted that Stevenson fumbled for the third consecutive game, creating real ball security concerns. If he can't protect the football, he'll lose favor among the coaching staff and play fewer snaps. He's already dropped to the mid-range RB2 tier for Week 4.

From RotoBaller

Allen Lazard Sep 20 4:40am CT
Allen Lazard

New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard caught all three of his targets for 48 yards and a touchdown in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3's Thursday night game. Lazard came out of the gate hot as he scored the Jets' first touchdown on a 10-yard catch with 4:26 left in the first quarter. The veteran wideout has been productive through the first three games of the season with 11 catches for 148 yards and three touchdowns thus far. Lazard and quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed good chemistry a few years back as members of the Green Bay Packers and that appears to have carried over to the Jets, putting Lazard on the map as a flex option in fantasy moving forward. He will now have a few extra days to prepare to take on the Denver Broncos in Week 4.

Hunter Henry Sep 20 4:40am CT
Hunter Henry

New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry caught two of three targets for nine yards during Thursday's loss to the New York Jets. Henry had broke out for eight catches and 109 yards in Week 2, but he was dealt a harsh reality check as his production came way back down to earth in Week 3. The veteran pass-catcher still has a strong rapport with Jacoby Brissett. However, there simply aren't enough targets to go around to support consistent fantasy production from several pass-catchers. Just like Week 2 was a Henry week, Week 3 belonged to Demario Douglas, who caught seven passes for 69 yards. Henry is a candidate to bounce back in Week 4, but given the Patriots' unpredictability on offense, he's a mid-range TE2.

From RotoBaller

Mike Williams Sep 20 4:40am CT
Mike Williams

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams caught three of his four targets for 34 yards in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3. Williams easily turned in his best game of the season after not drawing a target in Week 1 and catching just one ball in Week 2. He wound up finishing third on the team in receiving in the Thursday night win as the Jets are slowly ramping up his workload after a torn ACL in 2023. Williams should continue to see more work moving forward, although the reemergence of Allen Lazard as one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite targets could be a concern for Williams. He will now have a few extra days to rest ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Antonio Gibson Sep 20 4:40am CT
Antonio Gibson

New England Patriots running back Antonio Gibson rushed five times for 29 yards during Thursday's game against the New York Jets. He also caught three passes for an additional eight yards through the air. Gibson primarily played late in the game, including the drive in which Drake Maye replaced Jacoby Brissett. He was incredibly efficient with 5.8 YPC and showed a sort of burst on the ground that we haven't necessarily seen from Gibson in years past. He also kept firm possession of the football, which can't be said of Rhamondre Stevenson. The Patriots' lead back has now fumbled in three consecutive games, so if the coaching staff can't trust him to protect the football, he could lose significant opportunities to Gibson. The former Commander back is a fringe top-36 fantasy running back for Week 4 against the Niners.

From RotoBaller

Breece Hall Sep 20 4:30am CT
Breece Hall

New York Jets running back Breece Hall carried the ball 16 times for 54 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches for 29 yards in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3's Thursday night game. Hall extended his touchdown streak to three straight games with a one-yard run in the second quarter, putting the Jets up 13-0. The veteran running back has been excellent through three weeks, with 170 rushing yards and 16 catches for 120 yards. Hall is locked in as a high-end RB1 in fantasy moving forward. He will now have a few extra days to rest ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

From RotoBaller

Braelon Allen Sep 20 4:30am CT
Braelon Allen

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen carried the ball 11 times for 55 yards and added three catches for 13 yards in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3's Thursday night game. For the second straight week, Allen played a significant role running behind starter Breece Hall as he actually led the Jets in rushing yards in the dominant victory. The 20-year-old rookie has looked good through his first three games as the Jets have slowly increased his workload each week. Allen heads into Week 4 as a top handcuff in fantasy who also possesses some standalone value as a flex play.

From RotoBaller

Drake Maye Sep 20 4:30am CT
Drake Maye

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye came off the bench to make his NFL debut during the fourth quarter of Thursday's game against the New York Jets. He replaced Jacoby Brissett for the final drive of the game. Brissett had not fared very well behind the Patriots' depleted offensive line, and while Maye was also pressured heavily, he did show flashes of upside, completing four passes and rushing for 12 yards. The Patriots haven't named a starter for Week 4 quite yet.

From RotoBaller

Aaron Rodgers Sep 20 4:20am CT
Aaron Rodgers

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked sharp in a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3's Thursday night game. Rodgers completed 27 of his 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns while adding three rushes for 18 yards in the win. The veteran quarterback threw touchdown passes to Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson in the win, giving him five on the season. Rodgers has improved with each game this season as he gets further removed from a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 1 of the 2023 season. Even more encouraging regarding his Achilles was the 18 rushing yards as he came into the game with three carries for zero yards. Rodgers now has a few extra days to rest ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

From RotoBaller

Jacoby Brissett Sep 19 11:30pm CT
Jacoby Brissett

New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett completed 12 of 18 pass attempts for 98 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero turnovers against the New York Jets in Week 3. He also took five sacks, which is a clear indication that New England has a porous offensive line. The unit has specifically been bad in pass protection, which has left Brissett with very little time to get comfortable in the pocket and connect with his receivers. The veteran quarterback has done a great job controlling the football (he has zero turnovers through three games), but his overall yardage and touchdown totals are among the league's worst. Brissett was ultimately relieved by Drake Maye in the fourth quarter of Thursday's game, creating some questions about who will start at quarterback in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers. Regardless of that decision, Brissett can be avoided in most fantasy leagues moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Jerod Mayo Sep 19 11:20pm CT
Jerod Mayo

New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was non-committal when asked if he would consider a quarterback change heading into Week 4 of the 2024 season. "I don't know," Mayo told the media after Thursday's loss to the New York Jets. "We talk about it every single week: you're competing for a job. We'll get together as a coaching staff." Mayo pulled Jacoby Brissett in the waning minutes of a three-score game to get some reps for Drake Maye, who made his NFL debut. Maye led a solid drive, completing four of eight passes for 22 yards, rushing for 12 yards, and taking two sacks. He had the Patriots close to the end zone, but time expired before the Patriots could score. There were certainly some pros and cons from his limited sample size, and the biggest factor to consider is the offensive line. New England's pass protection has looked dreadful this season, so New England might not want to expose its No. 3 pick to tremendous pressure. That's especially true for Week 4 when the Patriots face a strong San Francisco 49ers defensive front. If Mayo wants to keep his young quarterback healthy and focus on his development, he'll likely roll out Brissett as his starter. But if the first-year head coach is ready to turn the page to a new chapter and throw Maye into the fire, that's well within the realm of possibilities. We should get more clarity on the Patriots' quarterback situation in the coming days.

From RotoBaller

Jacoby Brissett Sep 19 10:53pm CT
Jacoby Brissett

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye replaced QB Jacoby Brissett in the fourth quarter of the Week 3 game against the New York Jets, completing four of his eight passes for 22 yards and rushing twice for 12 yards in a 24-3 loss.

Fantasy Spin: Maye will be the starter in New England at some point, and if the Patriots continue to lose, the rookie's time will come sooner rather than later. Maye should be stashed in keeper leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jacoby Brissett Sep 19 10:43pm CT
Jacoby Brissett

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett completed 12 of his 18 passes for 98 yards in a 24-3 loss to the New York Jets in Week 3. He was sacked five times.

Fantasy Spin: Brissett and the New England offense were stuck in the mud all night, and rookie Drake Maye replaced Brissett late in fourth quarter. It might not be a premanent change just yet, but Brissett's time as the starter could be over in the near future.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots SS Jabrill Peppers (ankle) was able to return to the Week 3 game against the New York Jets.

Sam LaPorta Sep 19 9:00pm CT
Sam LaPorta

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has been off to an extremely slow start to begin the 2024 season. Last week, quarterback Jared Goff threw for over 300 yards, but LaPorta finished with two receptions for 13 yards in the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fantasy managers expected much more from LaPorta who recorded nearly 900 yards and scored 10 touchdowns during his rookie season last year. The hope is that LaPorta is able to bounce back against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. A defensive unit that has struggled early on, but has been able to keep the tight end in check. Despite that, LaPorta remains on the TE1 radar for a game that could be a shootout.

From RotoBaller

David Montgomery Sep 19 8:50pm CT
David Montgomery

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has been able to salvage his fantasy value by finding the end zone through the first two weeks of the season. Last week, Montgomery struggled with 35 yards on 11 rushing attempts in the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Luckily, Montgomery was able to save his value with a touchdown on the ground and four receptions through the air helped as well. He figures to continue splitting up the workload with fellow back Jahmyr Gibbs. Montgomery has seen 11 or more attempts on the ground through the first two games. He should continue to remain a significant part of the offense during the Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The 27-year-old should be a fine RB2 against a shaky Cardinals defense.

From RotoBaller

Jahmyr Gibbs Sep 19 8:40pm CT
Jahmyr Gibbs

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs had plenty of success on the ground versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. The young back rushed 13 times for 84 yards all hauled in all seven of his targets for 22 yards in the loss. The Lions have made it clear early in the season that they want to get Gibbs heavily involved in this offense. He should continue to have success against the Arizona Cardinals defense in Week 3. The versatility of Gibbs makes him such an intriguing weapon on offense. He should remain a strong RB1 for Week 3.
