Dynasty | The Bengals have signed running back Joe Mixon to a contract extension. Dynasty Analysis: Mixon gets a three-year, $27 million contract with $13 million in guaranteed money. Any questions about him being the answer beyond this season seem to be answered in the process. While Mixon hasn't been a dominant force, he's been able to get what's blocked and be fairly consistent in the process. He joins a Houston team that's certainly doing things the right way and should pair nicely with CJ Stroud moving forward. Mixon should be a solid RB2 with some RB1 games this next season, making him a solid target for a dynasty contender.

New Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon signed a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the team on Thursday that includes $13 million guaranteed, according to a source. The Cincinnati Bengals were set to cut Mixon for salary cap purposes earlier this week but ended up trading him to the Texans instead. Devin Singletary, Houston's primary back last year, signed with the Giants in free agency. The 27-year-old Mixon, a Pro Bowler in 2021, goes from one potent offense to another and will be the Texans' No. 1 back, giving him clear RB1 upside in fantasy. In 17 starts for Cincy in 2023, Mixon had the fourth 1,000-yard season of his career while scoring nine rushing touchdowns on 257 carries. He added 52 receptions (64 targets) for 376 yards and another three TDs.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon signed a three-year contract extension with the Texans Thursday, March 14, worth $27 million, according to a source. The deal includes $13 million in guaranteed money.

Fantasy Spin: It looks like Mixon will be the starting back for the Texans for the foreseeable future. He should see most of the work at the position and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option in fantasy leagues.

Dynasty | The Bengals have traded running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans. Dynasty Analysis: Say what!?! Mixon was reportedly set to be released but it's clear the Texans were very concerned about all the other running backs being signed yesterday and wanted to ensure they weren't left out in the cold. Mixon will immediately slot in as their lead runner and his signing is bad news for Dameon Pierce, who the Texans are clearly losing faith in. Mixon's dynasty value takes a bump with the move and he again looks like a decent short-term target for contending dynasty teams.

Mar 12 5:03pm ET

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon will be traded to the Houston Texans in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft choice at the start of the new league year on Wednesday, March 13.

Fantasy Spin: The Texans are probably more than happy to give up a conditional seventh-round pick for one year of Mixon and his $6.1 million cap charge rather than try to bid for his services as a free agent, which would have been the case if had been released. Mixon should be a good bet to handle 15 to 18 touches most weeks behind what should be a good offensive line in Houston - assuming better injury luck this season - which should allow the four-time 1,000-yard rusher to be a serviceable low-end fantasy RB1 for one more year.

Mar 12 11:43am ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon was acquired by the Houston Texans Tuesday, March 12, for an undisclosed package.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon turns 28 in July and is coming off a 257-1,034-9 line on the ground and a 52-376-3 line through the air. He finished the year as the RB6 in PPR leagues. He'll give the backfield stability and make the Texans even more dangerous if QB C.J. Stroud is for real and doesn't tank into a sophomore slump. Dameon Pierce will be behind Mixon, and Pierce's dynasty league owners are pretty unhappy right now. Mixon remains a midrange RB1. Pierce slips to a handcuff/RB4 type because he doesn't do a lot through the air.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is being traded to the Houston Texans, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It was previously reported that Mixon was going to be released after the team signed Zack Moss, but Houston zeroed in on the four-time 1,000-yard rusher after losing Devin Singletary to the New York Giants. Now in Houston, Mixon will have plenty of upside in the ascending offense led by C.J. Stroud. Although Mixon has averaged just under 4.0 yards per carry over the last two years, he still has some gas left in the tank, and his situation is a great one for fantasy production. Mixon has the fifth-most receptions by a running back since 2022 (112), making him a valuable asset in PPR formats.

Dynasty | The Bengals are releasing running back Joe Mixon. Dynasty Analysis: In a corresponding move, the Bengals are signing running back Zack Moss to replace him. Mixon was good during his seven years in Cincinnati but was never a dominant force on a team predicated on throwing the football. He still posted four 1,000-yard seasons in his seven years and caught 42 passes or more in four of those years as well, making him a borderline RB1 most seasons. Mixon will enter a strange market where running backs are being released and signed all over the place. If he wants a starting job, he'll have to act quickly. Stay tuned.

Mar 11 11:00pm ET

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, the Bengals released running back Joe Mixon on Monday night. This was relatively expected, considering the former Sooner needed to take a pay cut to remain in Cincinnati heading into the 2023-24 campaign. However, Mixon ended up having a quality season despite the plethora of injuries to the Bengals offense, running for over 1,000 yards for the fourth time in his career while totaling 12 touchdowns. At any rate, despite the number of available running backs still looking for work, Mixon should be one of the most coveted. He may have a few more quality years left, so he could flirt with making another Pro Bowl appearance before his career is over. Yet, until the 27-year-old signs somewhere, his fantasy outlook will remain a mystery.

The Cincinnati Bengals have released RB Joe Mixon, a source said Monday, March 11.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon struggled after earning a large contract, and the team elected to move on and replace him with Zach Moss, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts. The fantasy forecast for Mixon is a bit murky, but if he is able to find a starting job with a new team, he could still potentially be a low-end RB2 or flex option in 2024. We'll see where he lands.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler says that Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon and defensive tackle BJ hill are among the team's potential salary cap casualties this offseason, even though Mixon totaled 1,034 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 2023. If the Bengals were to cut Mixon, they'd save $5.8 million for the salary cap. After re-negotiating his deal last year, the 27-year-old is scheduled for an $8.85 million cap hit in 2024 in the final year of his deal. He's due a $3 million roster bonus on March 18, so we'll know by then if he'll be back with Cincinnati. In total, Mixon had 1,410 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns, making him the RB7 in half-PPR scoring in the 2023 regular season. As he gets closer to 30 years old, Mixon's days as an RB1 in fantasy could be coming to an end soon, especially if he leaves Cincy.

From RotoBaller

Feb 15 9:43pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon is unlikely to return to the team in 2024, according to Jay Morrison of Pro Football Network.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon has been a staple of the Cincinnati backfield for the past seven seasons, but he had to restructure his contract to remain with the team in 2023, and it will likely take a similar move this offseason for the relationship to have any chance of continuing.

From TheHuddle

Feb 12 9:53pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon received 77.8 percent of the team's rushing attempts in the red zone this past season, which led the NFL.

Dynasty | Bengals running back Joe Mixon had 111 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Bengals win over Cleveland. Dynasty Analysis: it was a relatively meaningless game but Mixon found a way to get himself his fourth 1,000 yard season with his first 100-yard rushing day of the year. The epitome of a "good but not great" fantasy asset over his seven seasons, Mixon will be a tough player to rank this off-season. On one hand, he continues to be pretty effective. On the other, his future with the Bengals and his age (he'll turn 28 in July) are going to hold him back a bit. Regardless, Mixon remains a solid hold in dynasty leagues.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Jan 7 9:20pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon ran the ball 14 times for 111 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Browns. He caught just one of two targets. However, it was good enough for another end-zone trip. The former Oklahoma Sooner hit the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time this year, and his efforts in Week 18 resulted in the fourth 1,000-yard rushing season of his career. But with the regular season in the books, the question remains whether Mixon will return to Cincinnati next season. He was almost released in the offseason. But he took a pay cut to stay with the team and finished the year with 12 touchdowns. Overall, Mixon exceeded expectations for fantasy managers. Yet, his outlook for the 2024-25 campaign will hinge on whether he remains in Cincinnati.

From RotoBaller

Jan 7 6:43pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon ended up with 14 carries for a game-high 111 yards and a touchdown in Week 18 against the Cleveland Browns, while posting a 6-yard touchdown catch on his only reception with two targets.
