After fully practicing on Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire popped up on the team's injury report on Thursday and was downgraded to a limited practice participant due to an illness. While that initially put the 24-year-old's status into question for Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, he put in a full session on Friday and enters the big game with no injury designation. Although Jerick McKinnon (groin) is questionable to play following a week of limited practices, head coach Andy Reid said on Tuesday that the pass-catching back is not expected to play. That leaves Edwards-Helaire as the Chiefs' change-of-pace back behind Isiah Pacheco, a role that's yielded only 27% of K.C.'s offensive snaps over three postseason games. Even though he's cheap in DFS, CEH is unlikely to make much of an impact with such little opportunity and would be totally out of play if McKinnon is surprisingly active.

Feb 9 12:30am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running backs Jerick McKinnon (groin) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) were both limited in the team's practice on Thursday. McKinnon remains on Injured Reserve, hasn't played since Week 15 and is unlikely to be activated in order to play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, Edwards-Helaire pops up on the injury report for the first time while being under the weather, but the 24-year-old should be fine in time for Sunday's big game. Isiah Pacheco (ankle, toe) has been practicing in full this week and will play this weekend, which will leave little for CEH in KC's backfield in order to make some noise for fantasy managers in DFS. In the team's three playoff games this year, Edwards-Helaire has just 10 carries for 53 yards and no touchdowns for the Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a name to watch ahead of Sunday's AFC title game against the Baltimore Ravens. Featured back Isiah Pacheco (ankle/toe) did not participate in two practices before upgrading to a limited session on Friday, jeopardizing his game status. In two games as K.C.'s lead back when Pacheco missed Weeks 14 and 15, Edwards-Helaire totaled 24 carries for 76 yards and caught six of his eight passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. But those two dates came with scat back Jerick McKinnon (groin) in the Chiefs' lineup, so CEH would be in line for a three-down role if Pacheco is out. Baltimore tied for the fourth-most opponent yards per carry (4.5) and the seventh-most catches to opposing RBs (86) in the regular season but also gave up an NFL-low five rushing scores to the position. Priced at $4,600 on DraftKings, CEH would likely be the chalkiest DFS play on Sunday's slate if Pacheco cannot give it a go.

Jan 7 12:20am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) will return from a one-game absence in Week 18 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Edwards-Helaire missed Week 17's win over the Cincinnati Bengals with an illness, clearing the way for Isiah Pacheco (quadriceps/shoulder) to take on a heavy 92.3% snap share. But with Pacheco questionable to play on Sunday, Edwards-Helaire could be thrust back into a featured role if K.C.'s lead back cannot give it a go. Jerick McKinnon (groin) is on injured reserve, leaving La'Mical Perine as the next man up behind Edwards-Helaire on the Chiefs' depth chart. In two games without Pacheco this season, CEH rounded up 169 total yards and one touchdown on 30 touches. The 24-year-old former first-rounder is volatile in a game of no consequence for the Chiefs but should be deemed RB2/3 playable, considering Pacheco may only receive a slight workload even if he suits up.

Dec 31 3:10pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) has been ruled out ahead of Week 17 versus the Cincinnati Bengals. He had been listed as questionable but ultimately unable to recover in time for kickoff. The good news for the Chiefs is that Isiah Pacheco (concussion, shoulder) will suit up. He ranks as a high-end fantasy RB2 with Edwards-Helaire sidelined.

Dec 30 10:00pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) is expected to suit up for Sunday's Week 17 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The young back is likely to play despite missing practice on Thursday and Friday. The expectation is that Edwards-Helaire will resume his job as the backup to Isiah Pacheco (concussion) who is also expected to play. If healthy, Pacheco would handle the bulk of the carries, so Edwards-Helaire wouldn't have much streaming appeal.

Dec 29 2:30pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) is being listed as questionable for the Week 17 game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Isiah Pacheco (concussion) is up in the air to play as well and the Chiefs placed Jerick McKinnon (groin) on Injured Reserve earlier this week, so their backfield is dangerously thin going into this weekend's contest. Edwards-Helaire came down with an illness on Thursday. The 24-year-old still has several days to recover, so we'd be surprised if he is forced to miss the game, especially with how beat up the rest of the KC backfield is. If Pacheco is forced to miss his third game in the last four contests, CEH would be in line for a big workload in a very enticing matchup. La'Mical Perine is the Chiefs' only other healthy RB on their active roster.

Dec 26 2:20am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire started the day on the bench but ended up serving as the team's lead back in Week 16's 20-14 loss to Las Vegas Raiders, taking four carries for six yards and catching each of his three targets for 42 yards. Isiah Pacheco (concussion) returned from a two-game absence due to shoulder surgery on Monday but left early and didn't return after losing his helmet and getting inadvertently kneed in the temple by a teammate. Edwards-Helaire's afternoon was highlighted by a 32-yard catch-and-run in the fourth quarter, but the bigger takeaway here is that he may very well be the most important name remaining on the majority of fantasy waiver wires for the finals after he was likely discarded. Jerick McKinnon (groin) is on injured reserve, so CEH would likely take all the run he could handle as a possible league-winning pickup at home in Week 17 versus the Cincinnati Bengals if Pacheco is out.

Dec 18 1:50am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire carried out a much better showing in Week 15's 27-17 win over the New England Patriots than he did last Sunday as the team's lead back, rushing 13 times for 37 yards with four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Edwards-Helaire endured a quiet first half with eight yards on the ground amid a pass-heavy Chiefs approach, but he looked the part of a former first-round pick on a shifty 48-yard screen catch to help set up a scoring drive. The 5-foot-7 tailback climbed the ladder for an impressive six-yard score in the back of the end zone following a Chiefs takeaway, and Edwards-Helaire continued to look revived on a 20-yard rush during the third quarter. After soundly out-touching Jerick McKinnon 17-7, CEH would present some upside RB2 life next Monday afternoon at home versus the Las Vegas Raiders if Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) isn't ready to return.

Dec 16 12:00am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire mostly failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity in his Week 14 return as the team's lead back with Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) out. Other than a 20-yard catch, the 24-year-old former first-round pick wasn't impressive in plodding his way to 39 ground yards on 11 carries. There's good news for fantasy managers; Edwards-Helaire easily set new a season best with a 48.5% snap share and matched a season high with 12 routes run. Jerick McKinnon crossed the end zone last Sunday, but his overall opportunity hardly expanded. CEH should handle a similar role in Week 15 against the New England Patriots, with Pacheco still out and the Chiefs checking in as considerable favorites. While not the most appealing RB2 of the bunch, CEH remains a volume-driven plug-and-play option against a Pats squad bottling up opposing RBs for the fewest yards per carry (3.2) in the NFL.

Dec 11 12:30am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire acted as an adequate fill-in for featured back Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) in Week 14's close 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills, taking 11 carries for 39 yards with two receptions for 29 yards. It was a quiet return to lead-back status for the star-crossed 2020 first-round pick, but he did handle 15 of a possible 22 RB opportunities in a timeshare alongside receiving back Jerick McKinnon. Edwards-Helaire's highlight of the evening was a 20-yard catch-and-run on a screen to energize the crowd early in the fourth quarter. The 24-year-old otherwise didn't provide anything particularly outstanding that would suggest he's earned more work when Pacheco is around moving ahead. CEH's Week 15 fantasy outlook depends on Pacheco's availability when the Chiefs take a trip to Foxborough for next Sunday's matchup against the New England Patriots.

From RotoBaller

Dec 9 8:50pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire should get a chance back in the spotlight for a Week 14 date with the Buffalo Bills. The 2020 first-round pick has mostly burnt out in 11 games this year, rushing 40 times for 140 yards (career-low 3.5 yards per carry) and a touchdown with seven catches for 44 yards. Edwards-Helaire is the favorite for early-down/base work with featured back Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) ruled out for Sunday. Scat back Jerick McKinnon should chip in on third downs and obvious passing situations, but it's Edwards-Helaire who is positioned for the most substantial gain in fantasy value. Buffalo's defense has surrendered the fourth-most targets (89), catches (68) and receiving yards (559) to the position, and they're dispensing the third-highest yards per carry (4.7). CEH is an immediate plug-and-play RB2 with upside in a matchup that carries the second-highest implied point total (49) of the slate.

Dec 8 4:20pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will start in Week 14 after Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) was ruled out, head coach Andy Reid told the media on Friday. It will be Edwards-Helaire's first start of the season. While Reid admitted that the Chiefs will deploy a rotation of running backs, he also confirmed that Edwards-Helaire will be the top option out of the backfield. The former first-round pick ranks as a high-end RB3 in fantasy football, especially given that the Chiefs have shifted to a more run-heavy approach this year.

Nov 17 1:30am ET

Kansas City Chiefs running backs Jerick McKinnon (groin) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) both practiced in full on Thursday. The Chiefs are coming off their bye and play on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11. Both players should be active, with McKinnon serving in a low-volume, pass-catching complement role to lead back Isiah Pacheco. McKinnon scored his third receiving TD in Week 9 but did so on just two receptions and had only one carry. He hasn't had more than three catches or three rushing attempts in any game in 2023. The 31-year-old is rostered in only 31% of Yahoo leagues. Edwards-Helaire is rostered even less (5%) missed Week 9 with an illness and is KC's No. 3 back behind Pacheco and McKinnon.

Nov 3 6:30pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) has been ruled out for Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins. The fourth-year running back will not suit up in Germany for the Chiefs' highly-anticipated game against the Dolphins. Edwards-Helaire has barely been involved in the offense over the last five weeks so this doesn't have much of a fantasy impact. He has just 33 rushes for 109 yards and a touchdown to go along with six catches for 36 yards on the season. It will be the Isiah Pacheco show for Kansas City as they look to get back in the win column in Week 9.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) missed practice on Thursday due to an illness. Edwards-Helaire still has several days to feel better before Sunday's game kicks off in Frankfurt, Germany, against the Miami Dolphins. Even if the 24-year-old is active, though, he remains well off the fantasy radar with both Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon (groin) ahead of him on KC's RB depth chart. CEH played a season-low two offensive snaps in the Week 8 upset loss to the Denver Broncos and is averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry through the first eight weeks of 2023. Edwards-Helaire has 33 rushing attempts for 109 yards and one touchdown. Stay away.

Dynasty | Clyde Edwards-Helaire was listed as a player to watch ahead of the 10/31 NFL trade deadline Dynasty Analysis: Remember that time in 2020 when the diminutive LSU running back took the dynasty community by storm to become the top player selected in rookie drafts? Fast forward to 2023 and CEH has become a significant afterthought and is a free agent in 2024. The Chiefs may elect to hold tight with their running back room leading up to the trade deadline, but with continuing need at receiver and leaguewide need for running back depth, Edwards-Helaire would seem to be an odds-on bet to be moved. DLF's RB56 will require a trade over the next seven days if there's any hope of salvaging his flagging dynasty ranking.
