Free-agent tight end Pharaoh Brown is signing a one-year, $3.2 million base-value deal with the Seattle Seahawks this week, according to a source. Brown can make a maximum of $3.9 million on incentives. He will give quarterback Geno Smith another veteran option in the passing game in 2024 after catching 15 passes for a career-high 208 yards and one touchdown in 17 games (11 starts) with the New England Patriots last season. The 29-year-old has just 64 receptions (88 targets) for 686 yards and three touchdowns in his six years in the NFL, so nobody is expecting Brown to become a very big part of Seattle's passing attack in 2024, especially while he plays second fiddle to primary pass-catching tight end Noah Fant. Brown had a career-high 23 receptions in 2021 with the Houston Texans.

It's notable mainly because starting tight end Hunter Henry (knee) will close out the year with his third straight absence. With Henry still out, the 29-year-old Brown should have a bigger role in the passing attack, although he's going to share valuable snaps with fellow tight end Mike Gesicki. At best, Brown will be a low-cost, touchdown-dependent, low-upside DFS play at the tight end position in a meaningless game. Brown hasn't caught more than two passes in any game this year and has a total of just 12 receptions for 208 yards and one touchdown on 12 targets all season.

Brown was a limited participant in practice all week while tending to a rib injury suffered in the Patriots' Week 17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The 29-year-old is used primarily as a blocker, running a route on just 21% of his plays and drawing just 12 targets all season. With Hunter Henry (knee) out for the season finale, it is possible he will get more use as a receiver, though. In New England's Week 3 contest against the Jets, Brown had his best game of the year, getting two receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Another fluke touchdown may come his way in Week 18 but he still makes for a risky DFS play.

Henry has missed the last two games with a knee injury but appears closer to returning for the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the New York Jets. With Henry out the last two weeks, Mike Gesicki has caught six of eight targets for 50 yards and one touchdown. Henry was on a roll in his last two games before getting hurt, hauling in 10 of his 12 targets for 106 yards and three touchdowns. If he's able to make it back for the final game of the regular season, the 29-year-old could be in play as a touchdown-dependent sleeper option in DFS formats, although the matchup isn't the greatest. In Week 3 against the Jets, Henry caught two passes for 17 yards.
