The addition of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith bodes well for Pittsburgh Steelers tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington. From 2021 to 2023 when Smith was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, they ran the most plays with multiple tight ends on the field (1,549), while the Steelers ran only 844 plays with multiple TEs, ranking 22nd in the league. Smith was inconsistent in using Kyle Pitts after his 1,000-yard rookie season, but Smith's scheme could help Freiermuth and Washington get more involved in 2024. The team's QB issues didn't help his cause, but Freiermuth had his worst season in his third year with Pittsburgh in 2023, catching 32 passes for only 308 yards and two touchdowns in 12 regular-season games. However, the 25-year-old finished the year strong and could bounce back in 2024 with better QB play.

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth hauled in five of his eight targets for 76 yards in a 31-17 playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Following a quiet end to the regular season, Freiermuth was involved early and often on Monday. The 25-year-old was responsible for Pittsburgh's longest play of the contest, a 33-yard catch and run on a deep pass from quarterback Mason Rudolph in the first quarter. He suffered an ankle injury late in the loss that limited his snaps on Pittsburgh's final possessions. It was a disappointing third professional campaign for Freiermuth, who dealt with multiple injuries in 2023, most notably a hamstring strain that kept him sidelined for five games. He will head into the offseason with one year left on his contract and will likely be the subject of extension negotiations.

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth will be making the second postseason appearance of his career against the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round. Freiermuth's utilization has been inconsistent all season, making him difficult to depend on for fantasy purposes. In addition, the Bills have been stout against tight ends, allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to the position in 2023. With the winter weather in Buffalo expected to limit the potential for offensive firepower on Sunday, fantasy managers should view Freiermuth as a last-resort starting option.

Jan 6 10:00pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth hauled in both of his targets for 21 yards in a 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens. With weather conditions forcing both teams to rely on short routes, Freiermuth's 13-yard gain in the second quarter was the second-longest passing play for Pittsburgh on Saturday. Although it's been a tumultuous year for the Steelers' offense as a whole, it's certainly fair to describe Freiermuth's third professional campaign as underwhelming. He'll conclude the regular season with just 32 receptions for 308 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games played. Freiermuth will hope to make an impact in the AFC playoffs, but Pittsburgh will need a few things to go its way to sneak in.

Jan 5 9:40pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth has had a disappointing run over the past five weeks and will hope to bounce back against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18. Although the Ravens are expected to rest many starters on Saturday, Freiermuth remains difficult to trust from a fantasy perspective. The 25-year-old has not surpassed three receptions or 45 yards since Week 12 and Baltimore has been stout against the tight end position this season. Freiermuth is at least guaranteed to see the field with Pittsburgh fighting for a spot in the AFC playoffs, but he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation option.

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth finished with three receptions for 44 yards in a Week 17 win against the Seattle Seahawks. It was by no means a great performance by Freiermuth, but the 25-year-old was effective with his four targets after earning zero opportunities last week. While Pittsburgh's offense has been impressive with Mason Rudolph handling QB1 duties, Freiermuth has not made much of an impact for fantasy purposes in recent weeks. Unfortunately, things will only get more difficult for him when the Steelers travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens in Week 18.

Dec 29 6:40pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth failed to record a reception in a Week 16 victory but will hope to bounce back against the Seattle Seahawks. It was clear that the Cincinnati Bengals made it a priority to shut down Freiermuth last week after the 25-year-old torched them for nine receptions and 120 yards back in Week 12. That said, it's difficult to gauge his chemistry with quarterback Mason Rudolph, who will be making a second consecutive start on Sunday. It is worth noting that Seattle represents a favorable matchup for tight ends as it has surrendered the eighth-most yards to the position this season. Still, fantasy managers should only consider Freiermuth as a last-resort starting option in championships this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Dec 23 8:30pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth was not involved in the team's 34-11 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Quarterback Mason Rudolph attempted 27 passes in the victory but did not target the 25-year-old once. It was somewhat surprising to see Freiermuth shut down on Saturday after he went off for nine receptions and 120 yards against the Bengals back in Week 12. Pittsburgh's offense was impressive with Rudolph under center, but fantasy managers will not be able to trust Freiermuth in Week 17 regardless of who is given QB1 duties against the Seattle Seahawks.

Dec 22 7:00pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (knee) logged full practices on Wednesday and Thursday and is set to face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16. Freiermuth has been extremely quiet in recent weeks but could bounce back on Saturday with the Bengals surrendering the second-most fantasy points to tight ends this season. In fact, the 25-year-old exploded for nine receptions and 120 yards against Cincinnati in Week 12. There is still reason to be concerned about Freiermuth in this contest, however, with quarterback Mason Rudolph drawing the start. Rudolph and Freiermuth connected for five receptions and 31 yards on nine targets in their only start together, which came in Week 10 of the 2021-2022 campaign. Fantasy managers can roll the dice on Freiermuth if in search of potential upside this week but should not be surprised if the third-year pro disappoints.

Dec 20 4:30pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (knee) was limited in practice on Tuesday but upgraded to a full session on Wednesday, putting him in line to play in Week 16 against the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday afternoon. He said he tweaked his knee on Tuesday, but it was a "false alarm." An MRI exam confirmed that the injury isn't serious, and his return to practice on Wednesday is a sign that he'll be available this weekend. Outside of his nine-catch, 120-yard breakout in the first meeting with Cincy in Week 12, Freiermuth has been an underwhelming TE2 streamer for fantasy managers. The 25-year-old has only scored twice in nine games as well, and not since Week 3. It's nice that he's facing the Bengals again on Saturday, but it also remains to be seen what his chemistry will be like with quarterback Mason Rudolph, who is the expected starter.

Dec 19 6:20pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (knee) was listed as a limited practice participant at Tuesday's practice session. Freiermuth is dealing with a knee injury as the team prepares for a Saturday matchup against the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals, but it's an injury that doesn't appear to be serious enough to keep him sidelined in Week 16. The 25-year-old missed five games earlier this year due to a hamstring injury that landed him on Injured Reserve, but he's been back since Week 11. Aside from a nine-catch, 120-yard performance in the Week 12 win over the Bengals, Freiermuth has done very little, catching nine passes (16 targets) for 63 yards in the last three games. In Pittsburgh's low-scoring offense that will now see quarterback Mason Rudolph make his first start of the year, Freiermuth should be considered a touchdown-dependent, low-end TE1, at best, in fantasy.

Dec 17 1:00am CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth recorded three receptions for 16 yards on four targets in a Week 15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The 25-year-old has now turned in three straight showings of fewer than six fantasy points following a massive performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12. It's not necessarily his fault, however, as all of Pittsburgh's offensive weapons except Diontae Johnson have been underwhelming with Mitch Trubisky starting at quarterback. Freiermuth will hope to have Kenny Pickett (ankle) back sooner rather than later, but the good news is that he'll get to face off against the Bengals once again next week. Cincinnati has been destroyed by the tight end position all season, putting Freiermuth back in play for fantasy managers next Saturday.

From RotoBaller

Dec 15 8:00pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth has been held in check over the past two weeks but will hope to return to form in a Week 15 bout with the Indianapolis Colts. It was not surprising to see little output from Freiermuth last week against the New England Patriots, who have been stout against the tight end position all season. Freiermuth still managed to earn seven targets from quarterback Mitch Trubisky, and if he sees similar volume on Saturday, it could translate to production as the Colts' defense has allowed the eighth-most yards and fourth-most points to opposing offenses in 2023. It's difficult to have much confidence in Freiermuth right now, but fantasy managers shouldn't go scavenging on the waiver wire to replace him in this matchup.

From RotoBaller

Dec 7 11:10pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth recorded three receptions for 18 yards on seven targets in a 21-18 loss to the New England Patriots. Although quarterback Mitch Trubisky frequently looked for Freiermuth, the 25-year-old struggled to find success against a Patriots defense that has shut down tight ends all season. Given the state of the Steelers' offense, Freiermuth should not be expected to produce for fantasy purposes consistently. He'll look to bounce back in a more favorable matchup against the Indianapolis Colts next week.

From RotoBaller

Dec 6 6:30pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth will take the field for his eighth appearance of the campaign against the New England Patriots in Week 14. Although Freiermuth displayed his potential to be a solid fantasy asset as recently as Week 12, he'll be difficult to trust on Thursday night with the Patriots surrendering the third-fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends this season. Furthermore, the Steelers will be forced to start Mitch Trubisky at quarterback with starter Kenny Pickett (ankle) injured. Freiermuth's output was inconsistent with Trubisky under center in 2022. He is likely still a better starting option than any tight end available on waiver wires, but fantasy managers should temper their expectations for the 25-year-old in this matchup.

From RotoBaller

Dec 3 7:30pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth finished with three receptions for 29 yards on five targets in a Week 13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. With the Steelers' offense struggling to move the ball, Freiermuth was unable to replicate the success he found in a career-best performance in Week 12. A difficult test against the New England Patriots is on tap for Thursday night. Fantasy managers will want to monitor the status of quarterback Kenny Pickett (ankle) this week before deciding to start Freiermuth.

From RotoBaller

Dec 3 10:20am CT

The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to "replicate" last week's success on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, using the middle of the field and getting the ball into the hands of their playmakers, including tight end Pat Freiermuth. After battling injuries and limited usage over the first half of the season, he had one of the best games of his career in Week 12, catching nine of 11 targets for 120 yards. He immediately figures into the TE1 conversation in fantasy football and can be started in most leagues.

From RotoBaller

Dec 1 6:10pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth dominated in Week 12 and will hope to find similar success against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Cardinals have held opposing tight ends in check for much of the season but did surrender two touchdowns to the Rams' Tyler Higbee last week. With quarterback Kenny Pickett targeting the middle of the field more frequently in a revamped offense, Freiermuth should be heavily involved once again. Fantasy managers should fire up the 25-year-old as a top-10 option this week.

From RotoBaller

Nov 26 8:50pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth secured nine of 11 targets for 120 yards in a 16-10 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals. In his second game since returning from a hamstring injury, Freiermuth posted career-highs in receptions and yardage. Cincinnati has been extremely vulnerable to tight end production all season, but it is worth noting that the Steelers' offense looked much improved in its first contest without former offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Freiermuth was perhaps the biggest beneficiary of Canada's departure as quarterback Kenny Pickett frequently looked for him over the middle of the field. The third-year pro should be a popular addition off fantasy waiver wires this week and will look to keep rolling against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13.
