When asked how realistic it was for him to be a potential trade-up team in the upcoming NFL draft, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said, "realistic." The Broncos will consider the possibility and also noted, "it's good to be Monti (Ossenfort) right now." Ossenfort is the general manager of the Arizona Cardinals, who currently hold the No. 4 overall pick. Denver currently sits at No. 12 overall and have Jarrett Stidham as their starting QB after releasing Russell Wilson this offseason. Even if they don't trade up in the first round to take a high-end QB, it's a good bet the Broncos will select a quarterback at some point in this draft, and he'll likely compete with Stidham for the starting job in training camp this summer.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reiterated that quarterback Russell Wilson "has pole position" to be the team's starting QB in 2024. And "when it's time to compete, Justin Fields will be given an opportunity to show his capabilities," Tomlin said. The head coach also said that Fields "oozes talent." The Steelers are going to run with the more experienced 35-year-old Wilson over Fields to open the 2024 campaign after signing Wilson to a one-year deal this offseason. Wilson had a nice bounce-back campaign in 2023 with the Denver Broncos, throwing 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions in 15 games, but he'll be looking over his shoulder in the Steel City and doesn't exactly have a ton of receiving options to work with in what's expected to be a run-first offense under Arthur Smith. Although Fields is set to start as the backup, he has way more QB1 upside in fantasy.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson is first in the pecking order, followed by QB Justin Fields, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed on Sunday, March 24. 'We've been very transparent about the pecking order, at least to start,' Tomlin said. 'I just think that provides clarity for all parties involved. Russell is a veteran man. He's got a proven process of readiness. He's been in this league a long time.'

Fantasy Spin: Wilson will enter the 2024 campaign after finishing as QB14 overall in 2023. However, Fields definitely has the higher upside of the two thanks to his ability to run and would be a borderline QB1, at worst, if he sees the field. Fantasy managers investing in Wilson would be wise to grab Fields, also.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reached out to quarterback Russell Wilson on Saturday night when the team was trading for Justin Fields to let him know that he was still considered the team's starter going into the 2024 season. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that while that is Tomlin's plan, Fields is going to compete, regardless. The 35-year-old Wilson will open the regular season as Pittsburgh's starter after a bounce-back campaign in 2023 in his final season with the Denver Broncos, but the aging signal-caller is going to need to play well to hold off Fields, who has more fantasy upside because of his elite rushing abilities. With George Pickens, Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III currently the team's top-three receivers, Wilson will be a high-end QB2, at best, in fantasy for what will likely be a run-first offense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and QB Russell Wilson plan to work on a contract extension at the end of the 2024 season, according to multiple sources. He had signed a one-year contract with the Steelers for the veteran minimum because the Denver Broncos are still paying him $39 million for the upcoming season.

Fantasy Spin: Although he may not be the same player that he was in Seattle, the 35-year-old Wilson can be viewed as a solid QB2 option in fantasy football drafts this year because of the weapons surrounding him on offense, such as WR George Pickens and TE Pat Freiermuth.

From TheHuddle

Mar 16 6:13pm CT

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Justin Fields has been told that he will be the No. 2 quarterback behind QB Russell Wilson.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation to see if anything changes, but it looks like Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the start of 2024. Wilson will be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in most leagues, while Fields likely will also be a No. 2 QB if he takes over the job.

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Russell Wilson (Broncos) officially signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday, March 15. Financial terms were not disclosed, but an earlier report stated it is worth $1.2 million.

Mar 15 11:10am CT

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Friday that they have officially signed quarterback Russell Wilson to an undisclosed one-year deal. As was fully expected this offseason, the Denver Broncos released Wilson with a post-June 1 designation, and he quickly latched on with the Steelers for the 2024 season. The 35-year-old will be in a competition with former first-rounder Kenny Pickett in training camp this summer, but the expectation is that Wilson will win the job, especially when considering how bad Pickett was as the starter last year before getting hurt. As of right now, the Steelers' top two wideouts are George Pickens and Calvin Austin III after the team traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, so Wilson doesn't exactly have a standout group of offensive weapons to work with. After a bounce-back year in Denver in 2023, he should be considered a midrange QB2, at best, heading into his first year in the Steel City.

Dynasty | The Steelers have signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal. Dynasty Analysis: Wilson is being paid handsomely by the Broncos this season and will make "just" $1.2 million on his contract with Pittsburgh. It's a no-brainer move for the Steelers who will now get a capable veteran quarterback motivated to prove he still has a lot left in the tank. This marriage seemed to be destined from the start and brings some new excitement around Wilson's future. While there are dominoes to fall on the Steelers depth chart, Wilson ends up with a contending team and a stable environment. He'll enter next year as a QB2 and has fallen all the way down to our QB24 in terms of dynasty rankings. However, he could have some magic left and the motivation to do well is clearly going to be there.

Free-agent QB Russell Wilson (Broncos) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $1.2 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, March 10.

Fantasy Spin: With the Denver Broncos paying Wilson nearly $40 million to not be on their team for the upcoming season, the Steelers grab themselves a bargain and have found their likely starter in 2024. Wilson may no longer be the same player he was with the Seahawks, but he is almost certainly an upgrade over Kenny Pickett. The 35-year-old should be viewed as a solid QB2 option in fantasy drafts this summer, especially with Diontae Johnson, George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth at his disposal.

Quarterback Russell Wilson is planning to sign a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Denver Broncos gave Wilson permission to meet with Pittsburgh after informing him last Monday he'd be released when the new league year began on March 13, and the 35-year-old signal-caller will sign a "team-friendly" deal with the Steelers. Although Wilson put up only 204.7 passing yards per game over 15 starts in 2023, his lowest since his rookie year, he compiled a solid 26:8 touchdown-to-interception ratio and is almost certainly an upgrade over Kenny Pickett. The former Pro Bowler is unlikely to deliver gaudy fantasy numbers in 2024, but Wilson provides the black and gold with a veteran presence and functionality under center that they've struggled to find amid the post-Ben Roethlisberger era. New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will employ a run-heavy approach, but the fantasy value of Pittsburgh's receivers increases with the move.

Impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson (Broncos) could meet with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, according to sources.

Fantasy Spin: Aidan O'Connell will be competing for the starting job, but the Raiders could add a veteran like Wilson to also fight for the starting job. Neither O'Connell nor Wilson would be more than No. 2 fantasy quarterbacks if they start for the Raiders.

Dynasty | Soon-to-be free agent quarterback Russell Wilson met with the New York Giants. Dynasty Analysis: Well, this just got fun. Wilson was apparently spotted at the airport meeting with the Giants as he made his way to Pittsburgh. It's an interesting development for sure as it show Wilson clearly has a market out there and indicated the Giants aren't 100% sold on Daniel Jones moving forward. This will be a story to watch in the coming weeks.

Mar 7 11:23am CT

Free-agent QB Russell Wilson (Broncos) is expected to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of free agency, according to sources Thursday, March 7.

Fantasy Spin: The Steelers have made it clear they're looking at competition for Kenny Pickett. There's no guarantee Wilson will be the starter wherever he signs so he can mostly be avoided for fantasy purposes.

From TheHuddle

Mar 7 11:20am CT

Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson is expected to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of 2024 free agency, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. Wilson was released by the Denver Broncos this week after posting an 11-19 record over two seasons with the organization. The Steelers are likely looking to upgrade the quarterback spot from either Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph, and Wilson could be attractive as a veteran option on the market. It's still early in the process, but Wilson could provide value boosts for wide receivers Diontae Johnson and George Pickens. Despite his decline in Denver, he still threw 42 touchdowns over the last two years, compared to a combined 16 for Pickett and Rudolph. The former Pro Bowl signal-caller is unlikely to post QB1 numbers in fantasy football moving forward, but he could be a serviceable QB2 in Superflex formats.

From RotoBaller

Mar 6 6:53pm CT

Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson likely will not receive any interest from the Carolina Panthers once he is released because it is not the right situation for him, according to head coach Dave Canales.

Fantasy Spin: The Panthers are hoping that Bryce Young improves his play next season and will continue to have him as the starter. Young will only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback until he is more productive on the field. It is not known if Wilson will be a starter for a team next season and can be avoided in most leagues.
