New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk (knee) could miss the entire 2024 season due to lingering knee issues. The 29-year-old missed five games last year, and head coach Dennis Allen said his knee is not responding the way they had hoped. This is a cloudy situation for now, but there will be further updates as the 2024 campaign approaches. Ramczyk was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by New Orleans and has started 101 games for the organization. He is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and one-time All-Pro. Needless to say, his absence from the lineup could negatively affect Derek Carr and the team's running backs and wide receivers.

The New Orleans Saints tried to select their left tackle of the future in the 2022 NFL draft by taking Trevor Penning, but that decision has bombed, as Penning has started just six games and been benched since then. It's why The Athletic's Larry Holder is suggesting that the team's biggest offseason need in 2024 is tackle and/or the guard position on the offensive line. Penning's failures have forced veteran Andrus Peat to fill in at left tackle with utility lineman James Hurst playing left guard. It's been a less-than-optimal situation for New Orleans' offensive line. If they do not address the issues, quarterback Derek Carr could be in for another injury-plagued season. Expect the Saints to address their offensive-line concerns through both free agency and the draft.

Dynasty | The Saints have restructured the contract of quarterback Derek Carr. Dynasty Analysis: The move has been expected and will save the Saints a whopping $23 million against the salary cap. It also likely locks Carr in as the starter for at least one more season. His first season was fine by most standards but far from dominant as he threw for 3,878 yards with 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Klint Kubiak has vowed changes as the offensive coordinator and Carr will hopefully benefit from them. At this point, he's best viewed as a solid QB2 but hardly a dynasty staple in a weekly lineup until we see a bit of a resurgence in production.

The New Orleans Saints restructured quarterback Derek Carr's contract on Friday for salary cap purposes, a move that was expected to give the team around $23 million in cap relief for the 2024 season, according to sources. Carr is due $30 million in base salary this year, so converting a portion of that into a signing bonus provides immediate savings. The 32-year-old veteran signal-caller is under contract with the Saints through 2026. In his first year in the Big Easy, he threw for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions while amazingly not missing a single game despite suffering multiple concussions, cracked ribs and a shoulder sprain. Carr is as tough as they come and can give fantasy managers low-end QB1 lines on occasion, but he's best drafted as a fantasy backup.

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr restructured his contract Friday, Feb. 23, to create around $23 million in salary cap space.

Fantasy Spin: Carr's tumultuous season earned him a QB16 rating in 17 games. If they can add some weapons around him in the offseason, he could fare better in 2024.

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly working to hire San Francisco 49ers passing-game specialist Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, according to sources. Kubiak would join the Saints' coaching staff after he coaches his final game with the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11, against the Kansas City Chiefs. No deal can be finalized until after the Super Bowl. The 36-year-old becomes the latest Kyle Shanahan disciple to go elsewhere after having success with the Niners. He's the son of former Broncos and Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, who led Denver to a Super Bowl 50 win in 2015. Klint will be replacing Pete Carmichael, who spend the last 15 seasons as the Saints' OC. He has experience as the primary play-caller and will now work with an offense that includes Derek Carr, Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave.

Feb 2 3:03pm ET

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr is expected to have his contract restructured, which would likely keep him with the team for another two seasons, per source on Friday, Feb. 2.

Fantasy Spin: Carr had an up-and-down first season with the Saints, with the veteran signal-caller having more downs than ups. The fact that he'll be staying with the Saints for two more years isn't great news for the team's pass-catchers, assuming he can't rebound moving forward. Despite his struggles, Carr still managed to finish as QB16 overall in 2023. He'll be on the QB2 radar in 2024.

From TheHuddle

Feb 1 8:30pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is set to count $35.7 million against the salary cap in 2024, and his contract presents an opportunity for the team to create some more cap space by March 13, the start of the new league year. The Saints are expected to restructure Carr's contract by that date, which would effectively tie the team to Carr for at least the next two seasons. Leaving Carr's contract alone would have allowed them to move on from Carr next year with a relatively small financial penalty. The 32-year-old is set to make $30 million in base salary in 2024. If the Saints choose the most aggressive route and convert all but the veteran minimum to a signing bonus, they could lower Carr's cap hit in 2024 to around $14.2 million, which would clear more than $21 million in immediate cap relief. Carr got better down the stretch in 2023 and finished his first year in New Orleans with 3,878 passing yards, 25 TDs and eight picks while playing through a sprained AC joint in his shoulder, fractured ribs and two concussions.

The New Orleans Saints are interviewing Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher for their offensive-coordinator job and have requested permission to interview Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron for the same position, according to a source. The Saints are looking for a offensive coordinator after firing Pete Carmichael after 15 seasons as the team's offensive coordinator. In addition to Pitcher and Waldron, the Saints have also requested permission to speak with Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson for the offensive-coordinator position. Former Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden could also be a candidate to either join the Saints' coaching staff or be the team's next play-caller given his familiarity with quarterback Derek Carr.

Jan 16 1:40pm ET

The New Orleans Saints fired offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael on Tuesday, according to sources. Carmichael has been the team's offensive coordinator since 2009, continuing in the role through the transition from Sean Payton to current head coach Dennis Allen in 2022. In addition to Carmichael, the Saints have parted ways with senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns. The Saints offense finished the season strong, but overall they were pretty inconsistent in 2023 under quarterback Derek Carr. New Orleans ranked ninth in the league in points per game (23.6), 14th in total yards per game (337.2), 11th in passing yards per game (234.7) and 21st in rushing yards per game (102.5) over 17 games.

Jan 9 1:00am ET

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen told reporters on Monday that he expects to return in 2024. Allen also believes there is no "fracture" in the locker room following the controversial conclusion to the team's 48-17 rout of the division-rival Atlanta Falcons in Week 18, which saw backup quarterback Jameis Winston call an audible for a rushing play to Jamaal Williams that ran up the score late. Despite one of the league's most favorable strengths of schedule entering the year, the 9-8 Saints missed the playoffs. Allen will enter 2024 with a mediocre 16-18 record during his two seasons in the Big Easy, but the squad did win four of their final five games of the 2023 campaign to close out the year on a positive note. After being unable to win three consecutive games at any point this season, New Orleans will seek more consistency with starting signal-caller Derek Carr figuring to be at the helm again next year.

Carr completed 22-of-28 passes for 264 yards for four touchdowns in the dominant 48-17 victory. The veteran quarterback finished his first campaign in New Orleans with 3,614 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Jan 5 4:10pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is riding a four-game streak in which he has thrown for multiple touchdown passes. In a pivotal Week 18 matchup with divisional rival Atlanta, Carr will look to remain hot. The Falcons have allowed the 13th-most (17.5) fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, giving Carr a softer secondary to work against. Averaging 244.7 passing yards per game over his last three starts, Carr will look to remain strong in what could be his final start of the season if New Orleans does not get the help it needs to reach the playoffs.

Jan 2 1:00pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr has recently put together his best stretch of play this year, and it's no coincidence that it has come while being able to avoid injuries that have plagued him for much of the season. Heading into Week 18 against the Atlanta Falcons, the Saints have won three of their last four games and Carr has gone 92-for-126 (73 percent) for 853 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He's been sacked five times and hasn't fumbled. "He's probably as healthy as he's been in a while, and so, you feel his accuracy in his passing, you feel more comfortable in the pocket," head coach Dennis Allen said Monday. Avoiding turnovers it the most important thing for the veteran signal-caller. With several high-end QB options potentially being rested in the regular season finale this weekend, Carr is setting up as a high-end QB2/low-end QB1 option for fantasy managers against Atlanta.

Jan 1 11:00am ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr kept the season alive in a big 23-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 17. Carr completed 24-of-32 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns in the road win, paying off for fantasy managers who started him in superflex leagues. New Orleans' playoff hopes are still alive, but they need more than just a win over Atlanta next week as Tampa Bay still owns the tiebreaker for the NFC South. Carr will look to continue his hot streak in Week 18 against the Falcons.

Dec 29 12:10pm ET

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr has churned out his best two fantasy performances of the season over the last two weeks, finishing as the QB7 and QB3 respectively. This week in a must-win game against Tampa Bay, Carr should continue his hot streak. The Buccaneers surrender the sixth-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, creating a favorable matchup for the Saints' signal caller. Carr can be trusted in lineups during fantasy championship week and is a home-run QB2 option.
