Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott remains likely to receive a contract extension, and the team has not ruled out of possibility of an agreement this year, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Prescott has been one of the top quarterbacks for the last few seasons and is in line for a lucrative extension at some point. He should be considered a No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues next season.

The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have a mutual understanding of his contract situation, according to sources, with no offers from Dallas despite Prescott being in a contract year. "We are where we are, locked and loaded for this year," owner Jerry Jones said. With no indication of a new deal coming, it looks like the 30-year-old signal-caller will play out the 2024 season on the final year of his contract. The three-time Pro Bowler threw for 4,516 yards and a league-high 36 touchdowns in 17 regular-season games in one of his best showings, but the Cowboys fell flat in the playoffs yet again. There's still time for the two sides to work something out to help ease the burden of Prescott's $55.46 million salary cap hit this year. Fantasy-wise, Prescott will be a QB1 consolation prize after the elite names at the position come off the board.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the team reportedly have a 'mutual understanding of his contract situation,' according to sources. Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Dallas has not presented Prescott with an offer and there is no indication one is in the works.

Fantasy Spin: Entering the final year of his current contract, Prescott's cap number is a gargantuan $55.455 million, so the team should be motivated to extend him. However, the Cowboys appear to be about as interested in doing an extension with Prescott as they were about getting even moderately involved in free agency. With head coach Mike McCarthy also entering his walk year, Dallas may be looking to hit the reset button after this year if the team fails to live up to expectations again.

The Dallas Cowboys converted a $5 million roster bonus due to quarterback Dak Prescott on Sunday into a signing bonus, creating $4 million in salary cap space for the 2024 season. The move reduces Prescott's salary cap number this year to $55.455 million, while two extra void years were added to his deal for cap purposes (void years now through 2028). It doesn't prevent the Cowboys and Prescott from further negotiating a long-term contract extension, but it gives the team some immediate cap relief. The 30-year-old made his third Pro Bowl in 2023 and had an excellent regular season, throwing for a league-high 36 touchdowns and 4,516 yards while completing a league-high 410 passes. Prescott isn't an elite fantasy QB because of his lack of rushing ability, but he's a fine consolation prize if you don't spend big money on the elite tier.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott converted $5 million of a roster bonus into a signing bonus Sunday, March 17, to create $4 million of salary cap relief. The move reduced Prescott's salary cap number to $55.455 million, and two extra void years were added to the deal for cap purposes through 2028.

Fantasy Spin: Prescott was the QB3 in fantasy last year, and he really didn't get a lot of fanfare for it. He'll be 31 this season and has a lot of questions about his future with the team. There should be no questions about his merit as a QB you should target in the upper-middle portion of QB1s.

From TheHuddle

Mar 4 8:00pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has faith that he and the team will be able to work out a new long-term deal. "I'm definitely confident, obviously it helps the team and it's important for the numbers. I've heard Jerry say that. This is a process, both sides understand that. Everything is great. It will happen," Prescott said. The 30-year-old carries a $59.455 million salary cap hit in 2024, so the Cowboys were hoping to work out a new deal with Prescott before the start of free agency next week. He'll have a base salary of $29 million, and the Cowboys currently sit just over $4 million over the cap. While Prescott isn't an elite fantasy QB1, he's right behind the top tier after delivering a league-high 36 touchdown passes and only nine interceptions while throwing for 4,516 yards in 17 regular-season games in 2023.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he is confident that he will receive a contract extension at some point.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation to see if Prescott is extended before the start of the 2024 season. He was one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL this past season and should be a No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Mar 3 2:40pm ET

ESPN's Dan Graziano isn't as convinced as most people that quarterback Dak Prescott will get a lucrative contract extension from the Dallas Cowboys. His current salary cap number for 2024 is $59.455 million, which is huge, and an extension would be the obvious way to reduce that number. However, Prescott has a lot of leverage with one year left on his current deal and a clause in his contract that prohibits the team from franchising him. The 30-year-old hasn't made it easy on Dallas in the past, either. If the two sides don't make progress on a deal, the Cowboys could save around $18.5 million in cap space by converting Prescott's 2024 salary into a signing bonus without adding any more void years. However, doing that would result in Dallas carrying a cap charge of around $55 million on Prescott in 2025.

From RotoBaller

Mar 3 9:13am ET

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said there is a possibility that QB Dak Prescott could play out his current deal instead of having his contract extended in order to lower his salary cap hit for 2024. Prescott has no-tag and no-trade clauses so he could become a free agent after the 2024 season if he does not agree to an extension.

Fantasy Spin: In another scenario, the Cowboys could restructure Prescott's deal to create $18.52 million of salary cap space for 2024 but it would mean deferring money until the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with Prescott counting nearly $55 million against the cap in 2025 even if he is playing for another team. He is one of the league's better quarterbacks and should be viewed as a QB1 option in all fantasy formats in 2024.

Dallas Cowboys All-Pro and Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith will be a free agent this year and is unlikely to return to the Cowboys, according to sources. The former ninth overall pick has been the team's starting left tackle since 2011, and he's expected to be highly coveted on the open market this offseason. The 33-year-old veteran has made the Pro Bowl eight times and has also been named a first-team All-Pro twice, but injuries have taken their toll on him in recent seasons. Smith played in 13 regular-season games in 2023 but hasn't played in more than that amount of games since 2015. It remains to be seen how Dallas plans to replace Smith at left tackle in 2024, but it will be something to watch for quarterback Dak Prescott's protection after his career year in 2023.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott could reach an agreement on a contract extension with the Cowboys before the start of free-agency, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Prescott is expected to be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL when the extension is done.

Fantasy Spin: Prescott's new deal likely will create some salary cap space for the Cowboys, so an agreement should be reached in the next few weeks. He is one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL and should be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback in 2024.

From TheHuddle

Feb 11 1:30pm ET

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to make quarterback Dak Prescott among the highest-paid QBs before free agency kicks off in March. Prescott has almost a $60 million salary cap number for the 2024 season. The Cowboys are going to want more maneuverability to sign other players this offseason, and the only way to do that is to do a new deal with Prescott that will lower his cap number for this year. Although Dallas flopped in the playoffs yet again, the 30-year-old Prescott led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes on a league-high 410 pass attempts during the regular season for 4,516 yards, the second-most in his NFL career. Prescott still won't be in contention to be one of the first few QBs taken in fantasy drafts this fall, but he's right behind the elite names.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said at the Senior Bowl this week that he thinks there are things quarterback Dak Prescott needs to do better moving forward. "The big thing is, we all know there is room for improvement," Jones said. "The thing that I would emphasize more than anything is that Dak has room for improvement. And not just the scheme around him, but Dak can improve." The 30-year-old led the NFL in interceptions in 2022, but he made the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career in 2023 with 4,516 passing yards, a league-high 36 touchdown passes and nine interceptions in 17 regular-season games. Prescott was great for fantasy purposes, but he and the team fell flat once again in embarrassing fashion in the first round of the postseason.

Jan 18 12:10pm ET

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, who is being retained for the final year of his contract in 2024 despite another early playoff exit, has full confidence in quarterback Dak Prescott moving forward. "I believe in Dak Prescott," McCarthy said. The head coach also called Prescott "part of the solution moving forward." The 30-year-old signal-caller made his third Pro Bowl in 2023 and led the NFL in completions (410) and touchdown passes (36) during the regular season while throwing for 4,516 yards and only nine interceptions after leading the NFL with 15 picks in 2022. Playoff issues aside, Prescott was in the MVP conversation all year and has put himself in the high-end QB1 picture for fantasy drafts heading into the 2024 season.

Cowboys' QB Dak Prescott scored an astounding 36.65 fantasy points in Sunday's playoff loss against the Packers. Prescott threw for 403 yards on 41-of-60 with three touchdowns and two interceptions including a pick-6 . Prescott scored at least 25 fantasy points eight times during the regular season.

Jan 14 11:20pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott piled up yards in a Wild Card Weekend loss to the Green Bay Packers. Prescott attempted 60 passes, completing 41 of them for 403 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He took four sacks, losing 16 yards, and picked up 45 yards on the ground on six rush attempts. Prescott was solid all season, but this was a game where his fantasy numbers looked a whole lot better than his performance on the field. Despite the three touchdowns and the 403 yards, he ended up with a QBR of just 43.3. The Cowboys certainly have a lot of questions to answer before next season, but Prescott's job as QB1 is safe.

Dynasty | Dak Prescott completed 41-of-60 passes for 403 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in an upset playoff loss to the Packers. Dynasty Analysis: This ended up being one of the greatest examples of an empty stat line in fantasy history. The Cowboys got down by as many as 27 points in the first half and Prescott was forced to throw a ton of short passes, much to the liking of Green Bay. Prescott solidified himself as an elite option this year but again failed to come up big in the postseason. With CeeDee Lamb in tow, he'll return next year as a top option but his chances of being a top-8 quarterback this off-season likely took a huge hit today.
