The Indianapolis Colts signed 2024 second-round pick Adonai Mitchell to his rookie contract on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 21-year-old spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Georgia before transferring to Texas ahead of the 2023 season. While playing in an offense with Xavier Worthy, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Jonathon Brooks, he racked up 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was rumored to be a potential first-round pick, but he ultimately fell to the No. 52 slot. In all likelihood, he'll be stuck behind Michael Pittman Jr. in the target pecking order, so he'll have to compete with Josh Downs for the WR2 role. The Colts are likely to have a low-volume passing offense in the first full year of Anthony Richardson at quarterback, so he has limited upside in traditional lineup fantasy leagues in Year 1.

Indianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell continues to flash his potential during organized team activities this offseason and made one of the plays of the day on Thursday during a 7-on-7 period. The highlight-reel play explains why the Colts took a swing on Mitchell in the second round of the draft despite just one year of big-time production in college. He had 55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023 at Texas and ranked first among receivers in this year's draft class with 81.8% of his catches resulting in a first down or touchdown. "He's been making a ton of plays out here the past couple of days," head coach Shane Steichen said. The 21-year-old is certainly one to watch, but his production could be sporadic in his rookie campaign if all of Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Alec Pierce can stay healthy.

After the addition of rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell in the second round of this year's NFL draft, Indianapolis Colts wideout Alec Pierce will compete with Mitchell on the outside for the No. 3 role this season. Michael Pittman Jr, who signed a three-year, $70 million contract extension this offseason, will continue to see the lion's share of the targets, with Josh Downs manning the slot as the No. 2 option. The 23-year-old Pierce only had 32 catches for 514 yards and two touchdowns last year and will now be battling a much more dynamic pass-catcher for a role in the Colts' offense in 2024. Not only is Mitchell a superior athlete, but his production (55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023) speaks for itself.

Dynasty | The second round selection of WR Adonai Mitchell gives the Colts' franchise QB yet another explosive weapon. Dynasty Analysis: In a drastically shortened rookie campaign, Richardson gave dynasty players a tantalizing glimpse of his playmaking abilities. His obvious strength was in the running game, but after several injuries and an early end to his season, the goal will be to keep him in the pocket and help him get comfortable standing tall and throwing downfield. Adding Mitchell to an already stocked supporting cast of WRs Michael Pittman and Josh Downs, as well as RB Jonathan Taylor, should give Richardson all the weaponry he needs to outperform his QB8 dynasty ranking and join the top three conversation.
The Indianapolis Colts selected Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell with the No. 52 overall pick of the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft. Mitchell was rumored to be taken as high as the middle of Round 1, but he ultimately fell a bit and landed with quarterback Anthony Richarson. Mitchell spent two seasons at Georgia before transferring to the Longhorns, where he racked up 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns while playing alongside Xavier Worthy and J'Tavion Sanders. With Michael Pittman Jr. in town, Mitchell might be capped in the WR2 role, but the development of Richardson will dictate how much upside he may have.

Dynasty | Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell reportedly boosted his draft stock with a solid performance at this year's NFL Draft Scouting Combine. Dynasty Analysis: Mitchell and teammate Xavier Worthy have both been more than impressive since the season ended and both could end up being first round draft selections in what looks to be an absolutely loaded wide receiver class. Mitchell ran a 4.34 40, posted a vertical of 39.5 inches and recorded an 11-4 in the broad jump this year. He also became just the fifth wide receiver since 2003 to run a 4.34 or better at 6-2 or taller. Mitchell is going to be an intriguing dynasty pick towards the end of round one in rookie formats this year and a healthy landing spot would make him even more desirable.
