San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that quarterback Brock Purdy (back) didn't carry an injury designation after practicing in full on Wednesday. Purdy came out of the Week 3 loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Rams with some minor back soreness on Monday, but he appears to be just fine and should be in the clear to start this weekend for a Week 4 matchup against the New England Patriots. The 24-year-old signal-caller displayed why he should be seen as a high-floor fantasy QB after throwing for 292 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to the Rams while being without running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles, calf), receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (calf) and tight end George Kittle (hamstring), arguably his top three targets. Purdy could be without all three for a second straight week against an underrated Pats defense. Consider him a low-end QB1/high-end QB2 in Week 4.

49ers' QB Brock Purdy scored 29.70 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 3 loss in Los Angeles Rams. Purdy threw for 292 yards on 22-of-30 with three touchdowns. It's the 1st time this season Purdy scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Sep 23 4:00pm PT

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that quarterback Brock Purdy (back) is day-to-day with back soreness. It doesn't sound like a very serious injury, but we'll keep a close eye on Purdy's practice status anyway this week as the team prepares for their Week 4 meeting against the New England Patriots this weekend. The 24-year-old signal-caller was without running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles, calf), receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (calf) and tight end George Kittle (hamstring) -- arguably his top three offensive weapons -- in the Week 3 loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Rams but still managed to throw for 292 yards and a season-high three touchdowns on 30 attempts, with most of his work being done with wideout Jauan Jennings, who hauled in all three of Purdy's TDs. If Purdy plays in Week 4, he'll be more attractive as a QB1 in fantasy if one/both of Samuel or Kittle can return.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had his best fantasy day of the young season in a 27-24 loss to the Rams in Los Angeles on Sunday. He finished with 22 completions of 30 attempts for 292 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions, and one fumble lost. Purdy also took 10 rushing attempts for 41 yards. San Francisco led the entire game -; save for the last two seconds -; largely propelled by Purdy's connection with receiver Jauan Jennings who caught all three of Purdy's touchdown passes and was his favorite and most productive target. The former seventh-rounder could have done even more for his team and fantasy managers but failed to see a wide-open Brandon Aiyuk streaking down the middle past the Rams' secondary in San Francisco's penultimate drive. Purdy and the Niners have a Week 4 home matchup against the New England Patriots next Sunday.

Sep 20 10:10pm PT

In Week 3, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy takes the team's 1-1 record into their first divisional game of 2024 in Los Angeles against the Rams in their home opener. Purdy didn't light up the fantasy scoreboard last Sunday in Minnesota by any stretch, throwing for only one touchdown, tossing an interception, and losing a fumble. However, he did throw for 319 yards. It was probably even more frustrating and painful for Purdy himself though, being sacked a career-high six times. Purdy is stuck on one touchdown through two weeks, but on the bright side, he is surprisingly leading the NFL in passing yards per game. The Rams are coming off a 41-10 road drubbing at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals, a game in which Kyler Murray threw for 226 yards and three passing touchdowns. Before that though, they kept Lions QB Jared Goff to 217 yards, one touchdown, and a pick in Detroit. Purdy will be without Deebo Samuel Sr. (calf) and probably George Kittle (hamstring) in this one, not to mention Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) who isn't expected to return for several more weeks. Even if Los Angeles' pass defense is as vulnerable as they looked last week, these injuries throw cold water on the matchup advantage. Put Purdy on the QB1/2 border with a slight boost if Kittle plays.

Sep 15 6:30pm PT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy fell short in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium. Purdy finished the game having completed 28 of 36 passes for 319 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He added two scrambles for 12 yards on the ground. Minnesota's defense kept the pressure on Purdy all afternoon, as he found himself absorbing a career-high six sacks. Purdy did make many quality throws and his lone interception came from a nice defensive deflection that may have been a simple incompletion if the ball hadn't popped upward in traffic over the middle. Purdy's other turnover happened when the ball slipped out of his hands as he threw and went directly to a waiting Jihad Ward, being ruled a fumble. Today's game represents the second disappointment in a row for fantasy owners. Next up for the 24-year-old signal-caller is a road matchup versus the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3.

San Francisco 49ers' QB Brock Purdy passed for 319 yards on 28-of-36 with one touchdown in Sunday's loss in Minnesota.

Sep 13 9:40pm PT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will try to pick up a second-straight win in a Week 2 matchup versus the Vikings in Minnesota on Sunday. He'll be going up against a defense that was almost exactly league-average in 2023 for fantasy points per game allowed to opposing quarterbacks, but who held Purdy to 272 yards, two interceptions, and one touchdown last year (albeit without stud tackle Trent Williams and receiver Deebo Samuel). The Vikings made mostly minor changes to their defensive personnel in the offseason, most notably losing standout edge rusher Danielle Hunter and replacing him with first-round pick Dallas Turner. In their opener last week, the Vikings made New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones look horrible but how much credit goes to the defense versus Jones' ineptitude is debatable. Last week, Purdy was solid but rather unhelpful for fantasy managers in a home victory over the New York Jets, with 231 yards passing, 11 yards rushing, and no touchdowns or picks. At any rate, he'll have his whole complement of receivers in this one -- save for running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) -- so Purdy should be in for a decent day, especially with wideout Brandon Aiyuk getting another week of practice under his belt. Look for Purdy to find the end zone in Week 2, as he sits on the fantasy QB1/2 border.

Sep 9 10:20pm PT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had a solid outing in leading his team to a decisive victory over the New York Jets on Sunday night. Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 231 yards and did not record any touchdowns or turnovers. The Jets' defense, missing edge rusher Haason Reddick due to a holdout, failed to apply significant pressure. The 49ers took control of the game by halftime, allowing Purdy to focus on game management rather than pushing for big plays. San Francisco dominated possession, holding the ball for 38 minutes and 40 seconds and scoring on eight offensive drives before taking a knee on their final possession. The 49ers ran 70 plays compared to the Jets' 49. As the season progresses, expect Purdy to deliver higher-scoring performances, with his next opportunity coming against the Vikings on Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers lifted All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams' roster exemption and he is active for the Week 1 contest on Monday night against the visiting New York Jets. Williams was in a contract holdout all during training camp over the summer, but he and the 49ers agreed to a new contract last Tuesday, so he's been back with the team ever since and is ready to go for the regular-season opener. The 36-year-old's conditioning could very well be less than par after being away from the team for all that time, but his presence on the field at Levi's Stadium is certainly a plus for quarterback Brock Purdy and the entire San Fran offense, which will be without star running back Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles) on Monday. The 49ers' offensive line will need all the help they can get to slow down New York's vaunted pass rush.

Sep 8 8:50am PT

San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams is expected to play a "full complement of snaps" on Monday night against the New York Jets, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. There had been some concern that Williams' holdout, which ran into the start of September, could have put him behind in preparation for Week 1. However, it sounds like he'll be 100 percent. As Garafolo notes, it's difficult rotating left tackles in and out of the game, so having Williams for every snap is in the 49ers' best interest. Of course, his track record speaks for itself. He's regarded as one of the NFL's best linemen, so his presence bodes well for the likes of Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and others.

Sep 7 7:00pm PT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will open his third pro season on Monday night with a home game against the New York Jets. In 2023, Purdy had an excellent year, leading the league in several important categories, which led to a fourth-place finish in MVP voting and a narrow loss in Super Bowl LVIII. Despite Purdy's success in the regular season, the 24-year-old spent most of last year on the fantasy QB1/2 edge, mostly because of San Francisco's emphasis on the ground game and Purdy's lack of reliable rushing production. Meanwhile, the Jets' passing defense was elite last year, ranking second in the NFL in yards per game (168.3). In terms of personnel turnover, New York's defense remains largely intact though they did lose safety Jordan Whitehead as well as Bryce Huff and Quinton Jefferson up front. In March they replaced Huff by trading for All-Pro Haason Reddick. However, Reddick will not play on Monday night due to a contract holdout, which should make life a little easier for Purdy. Even still, with the Jets' pass defense being a true shutdown unit, Purdy is firmly in QB2 territory this week.

Updating a previous report, left tackle Trent Williams, an 11-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, agreed to a long-term contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday to end his holdout, according to sources. The move puts Williams in line to play in the team's Week 1 regular-season opener next Monday night against the New York Jets, which is excellent news for all of San Fran's offensive weapons, most notably quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey (calf). The 36-year-old Williams held out for all of training camp, accruing more than $4 million in fines for missing every practice and all three preseason games. He had been owed $20.05 million this year under the six-year, $138.1 million deal he signed in 2021. Williams ranked as the best pass-blocking tackle last year with a 95.8% pass-block win rate.

Aug 28 10:40am PT

A resolution between the San Francisco 49ers and star left tackle Trent Williams isn't close at this time as he looks for more guaranteed money and a raise on his current deal. Williams plans to continue his holdout until his contract is addressed, and it's possible it seeps into the start of the 2024 regular season. The 36-year-old veteran never reported to training camp this summer, so he's not currently counting towards one of the team's 53 spots on the active roster. One of the best left tackles in the game wants a raise after seeing both Tristan Wirfs and Penei Sewell sign new deals this offseason worth $28 million per year. Williams currently has three years left on his six-year, $138 million deal that carries an average annual value of $23 million. He's scheduled for a $20.5 million base salary in 2024 and $22.5 million next year. Not having Williams to kick off the season will be a major downgrade for Brock Purdy's protection.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy shook off a bit more rust in a 24-24 preseason tie at the Las Vegas Raiders. The 24-year-old completed nine of twelve pass attempts for 96 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. He was sacked once and took one carry for a 14-yard gain. Overall, Purdy looked better than he did last week versus New Orleans while he took the offensive snaps in the first three San Francisco possessions on Friday night. Purdy showed rapport with fellow starters, involving Deebo Samuel and George Kittle for five of his nine completions, albeit against Las Vegas' third unit. The interception is better attributed to an excellent defensive play than any mistake by Purdy as Sam Webb deflected a frozen rope intended for a slanting Samuel, which landed in Chris Smith II's hands. The real mistake Purdy made on the play was throwing his head at Smith II's legs in a successful -- but meaningless -- attempt to end the return. Luckily, he wasn't hurt. Purdy will begin his 2024 season on September 9 against the New York Jets on the QB1/2 border for fantasy.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy made his 2024 preseason debut in a 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night in Santa Clara. Purdy started the game and spent the first three San Francisco offensive possessions under center before giving way to backup Joshua Dobbs. In that time Purdy produced a meager two completions on six attempts for 11 yards while taking one sack. From the beginning, New Orleans did a great job of putting pressure on Purdy, putting him in the grass multiple times. Whether observers blame San Francisco's lack of protection, Purdy himself, or credit the Saints' pass rush, it's wise not to overreact -- or react at all -- to preseason performances by entrenched starters. Purdy will look to shake off more rust when the 49ers take on Las Vegas on Friday night for their preseason finale.

Aug 17 11:50am PT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is expected to start for Sunday's preseason battle against the Saints. However, the signal-caller will likely play sparingly. Purdy spent all of last offseason recovering from an elbow injury. Yet, he still threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 picks during the 2023-24 campaign, adding two scores off 39 carries. With Purdy coming off a Super Bowl appearance, expectations are higher than ever. Fantasy managers should view him as a week-to-week starter in most formats, especially with Christian McCaffrey (calf), George Kittle, Deebo Samuel Sr., and possibly Brandon Aiyuk at his disposal.

From RotoBaller

Aug 6 8:20pm PT

Most of the San Francisco 49ers starters will not play in their preseason opener at the Tennessee Titans this Saturday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. We already know that running backs Christian McCaffrey (calf), Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) and rookie Isaac Guerendo (hamstring) and rookie first-round wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (shoulder) will not suit up for a team that has been hit hard with injuries early in training camp. Quarterback Brock Purdy, receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle probably won't suit up, either. The 49ers aren't unlike most teams early in the preseason in sitting their starters. There's still plenty of time for Sn Fran's offensive weapons to heal up before Week 1 of the regular season, but the offense's efficiency will be worth watching early in the year if most of their starters don't get much time to work together in the last two preseason contests.

Jul 27 12:10pm PT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy won't be satisfied by just winning games this season. "I want to be dominant," said Purdy in an interview. "Not just win games and feel like, 'eh.' I want to be dominant with the consistent decisions and feeling like we're the top dogs every day." The signal-caller finished the 2023-24 campaign by throwing for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 picks. Unlike last offseason, Purdy won't be rehabbing from elbow surgery, and with plenty of weapons in his arsenal, he might accomplish his goal of dominating opposing defenses in 2024-25.

From RotoBaller

Jul 24 5:40pm PT

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams did not report for training camp due to contract-related issues. General manager John Lynch has negotiated with Williams' representatives throughout the offseason to restructure the final three non-guaranteed years of his current six-year, $138.1 million contract signed in 2021. Williams stands to earn approximately $20.1 million in base salary this season, along with a $750,000 per-game roster bonus. Each day of absence from training camp incurs a mandatory fine of $50,000 for Williams. His potential absence could have significant implications for critical offensive players such as Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel Sr., Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle, as Williams earns widespread recognition as one of the top tackles in the NFL. The 36-year-old has been selected to 11 consecutive Pro Bowls and named a first-team All-Pro for the past three seasons, highlighting his integral role in the 49ers' offensive line. Expect the team to resolve the contract dispute swiftly and ensure Williams returns to the field promptly.
