Dynasty | The Patriots have released quarterback Bailey Zappe. Dynasty Analysis: Remember when Zappe was outplaying Mac Jones and looked like he could be a future starter for New England? Yep, that seems like light years ago now. Zappe was brought back after final cuts last year but that likely won't be the case with the Patriots having Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett (now unlikely to be traded with this move) on the roster. It certainly looks like Maye is going to win the job and this may seal it.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones played well in a 20-7 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed 16 of 23 passes for 210 yards and two passing touchdowns, one in each half. Jones was 11-for -18 in the first half and was relieved by C.J. Beathard to start the second half. Jones was inserted back into the game after Beathard took some hard hits and continued his solid play. The former Patriot has the draft capital and starting experience over Beathard, which seems to give him the edge for the backup to Trevor Lawrence. If Jones officially wins the job, he still has very little value in redraft leagues, but in dynasty, he is at least worth rostering, especially in two-quarterback formats. Any value as a fantasy starter is behind him, but Jones isn't fantasy-irrelevant just yet.

Unsurprisingly, the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't pick up the fifth-year option on new quarterback Mac Jones, who the team acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots this offseason. Jones was New England's first-round pick in 2021 but failed to make an impact as their starter under center. He went to the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2021 but was merely a replacement player. Jones started all 42 games that he played for the Patriots, but the team went 4-13 in 2023 and Jones found himself on the bench for the final six games. The 25-year-old from Alabama regressed in each of his three seasons in Boston, but it didn't help that the Patriots were constantly bringing in new offensive coaches during his time there. Now in Jacksonville, Jones will operate as the clear backup to Trevor Lawrence in 2024.

The New England Patriots are listening and taking calls from teams looking to move up to the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of Thursday's NFL draft. General manager Eliot Wolf is running point on the team's draft, but sources are saying president Jonathan Kraft is heavily involved in the decision-making process. Most people think the Patriots will ultimately stay at No. 3 and take a quarterback of the future after moving on from Mac Jones this offseason. Teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and Denver Broncos would be the most likely to trade up to No. 3 to take a QB. If the Patriots stay put and select third overall, whatever rookie signal-caller they take would be competing with veteran Jacoby Brissett for the starting gig under center this fall.
