Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) and RB Pierre Strong (hamstring) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 3 against the New York Giants. OT Jack Conklin (knee) and OT Jedrick Wills (knee) were limited in practice on Friday, Sept. 20, and are listed as questionable. DE Za'Darius Smith (back), CB Denzel Ward (shoulder, toe), LS Charley Hughlett (foot), DE Alex Wright (triceps, elbow), DE Myles Garrett (foot) and OT Dawand Jones (knee) were limited in practice on Friday but no longer appear on the injury report. CB Martin Emerson (ankle, shoulder), WR Jerry Jeudy (knee), LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (hand), DE Dalvin Tomlinson (rest) and WR Jamari Thrash (illness) practiced in full on Friday and have also been removed from the injury report.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the New York Giants.

Fantasy Spin: This news should come as no surprise to fantasy managers, as Njoku is only about two weeks out from recovering from an injury that usually sidelines players four to six weeks. Jordan Akins will likely get the nod again, but he would only be a consideration for managers in deep tight end premium leagues.

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (ankle) and running back Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring) have both been ruled out for the Week 3 contest this Sunday in Tennessee against the Titans. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said earlier this week that it was unlikely that Njoku would return this weekend after spraining his ankle in the Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Fantasy managers will need to keep the 28-year-old on their benches for at least another week. Jordan Akins caught his only target for a 10-yard gain in last week's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fantasy managers should be able to find better TE2 streamers in Week 3. Strong pulled his hammy against the Jaguars and missed practice all week. With the 25-year-old sidelined, D'Onta Foreman could have a bigger role again as the change-of-pace back behind starter Jerome Ford.

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (ankle) missed practice for the second straight day this week. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said already this week that it's unlikely that Njoku will return in Week 3 to face the New York Giants, so it's not much of a surprise that Njoku has yet to practice this week. Fantasy managers should be fully prepared to be without Njoku against this weekend. The 28-year-old suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and could ended up missing more time beyond this weekend. Still, he deserves to be stashed in all fantasy formats for now. In the Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars without Njoku, Jordan Akins was only targeted once and caught it for a 10-yard gain. Meanwhile, receiver Elijah Moore drew a team-high eight targets and came away with six receptions for 44 yards. Akins is, at best, a touchdown-dependent TE2 sleeper this week.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Spin: It seems like Njoku will be sidelined for another game, so fantasy players will need to find other options for their starting lineups.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) and RB Pierre Strong (hamstring) did not practice for a second straight day on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Njoku's absence is a much bigger deal than Strong's, although neither DNP is overly surprising. It would be a surprise if either one played in Week 3 against the New York Giants. Jordan Akins will likely draw another start if Njoku is sidelined, although it is more likely that his targets will be spread among Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore and Jerry Jeudy.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Spin: Njoku is not expected to play in Week 3, but fantasy players can check later in the week to see if he has a better chance to play. Players should have another option ready because of his injury.

Sep 18 12:10pm CT

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Wednesday that tight end David Njoku (ankle) is unlikely to play in the Week 3 contest this Sunday against the New York Giants due to the ankle injury he suffered in the season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Njoku was inactive in the Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and is now set to miss a second straight game. In his absence last Sunday, Jordan Akins saw a role increase at the tight end position, but it led to only one catch on one target for a 10-yard gain. Akins had better production (three catches for 27 yards) with Njoku active in Week 1. The 28-year-old Njoku should remain stashed in most fantasy formats while he heals. We'll have a better idea early next week as to whether Njoku will have a chance to return for Cleveland's Week 4 contest on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) is 'unlikely' to play in Week 3, head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Spin: This update comes just a few days after Stefanski expressed hope that Njoku would suit up. It's hard to trust any pass-catcher in Cleveland these days, let alone their backup tight end. Look elsewhere for help.

From TheHuddle

Sep 16 12:53pm CT

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) could return for the Week 3 game against the New York Giants, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Spin: Managers may want to avoid Njoku if he's on a pitch count in Week 3, but he's a mid-TE1 option if he has his regular workload.

From TheHuddle

Sep 16 12:10pm CT

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said he will not rule out tight end David Njoku (ankle) for the Week 3 game against the New York Giants "yet." Njoku suffered an ankle sprain in the Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and was inactive in Sunday's 18-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Njoku is considered week-to-week with his ankle sprain, and depending on what he can do in practices this week, he could have a shot to return after missing just one game. Without the 28-year-old in Jacksonville, backup Jordan Akins caught his only target for a 10-yard gain on a day in which quarterback Deshaun Watson didn't look all that great again with 186 passing yards on 34 attempts. When healthy, Njoku is a low-end TE1 in what has looked like a lackluster Cleveland offense so far. Check back later this week to see if Njoku is able to return to the practice field.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 13, and has been ruled out for Week 2.

Fantasy Spin: Jordan Akins likely will be the starting tight end while Njoku is sidelined and probably will see a few targets in the passing game. Fantasy players likely can find better options and can avoid Akins.

Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett (foot), TE David Njoku (ankle) and DE Za'Darius Smith (back) did not practice on Thursday, Sept. 12. In addition, OG Joel Bitonio (elbow), OT Jack Conklin (knee), LS Charley Hughlett (foot), DT Dalvin Tomlinson (knee), OT Jedrick Wills Jr. (knee) and DE Alex Wright (triceps/elbow) were limited and C Nick Harris (knee), WR Jerry Jeudy (knee), LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (hand) and CB Denzel Ward (shoulder) practiced in full.

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) did not practice once again on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Fantasy Spin: Njoku has already been ruled out for Week 2. The Browns do not have have a viable starting option behind him on the depth chart, so fantasy manager will have to look elsewhere.

Sep 11 12:00pm CT

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (ankle) will miss Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to an ankle injury. Njoku suffered the ankle injury in Week 1 and is considered week-to-week. The 28-year-old limped off the field after being rolled up on by an opposing defender in Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys and was feared to have a high ankle sprain. He has a history of foot and ankle issues, which is concerning for his future production. However, there aren't many good options for fantasy at tight end, so he's a must-start when he plays. Fellow Browns tight end Jordan Akins is the only other TE on the depth chart, but he logged just three receptions in 2023, so Njoku managers should look elsewhere for a replacement this week.

Sep 11 11:23am CT

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 2, head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Spin: The next man up on the depth chart is Jordan Akins, who does have some history with Deshaun Watson from their days together in Houston. However, with Watson's struggles, and with it being so early in the season, you can probably find a better option on the waiver wire.

From TheHuddle

Sep 10 1:00pm CT

The Cleveland Browns are hosting free-agent tight ends Irv Smith Jr., Tommy Sweeney and Geoff Swaim for visits/workouts on Tuesday, according to a source. The Browns are suddenly in the market for a tight end after starter David Njoku (ankle) injured his ankle in the Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. It's unclear if the 28-year-old suffered a dreaded high-ankle sprain, but he's currently considered week-to-week, and there's a good chance he won't be cleared to play in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The fact that Cleveland is searching for more TE depth could mean that they expect Njoku to miss multiple games. Smith would be the most intriguing addition to the Browns' offense, but he'd still just be depth behind Jordan Akins, who is fully expected to be the team's primary pass-catching tight end for however long Njoku is out.

Sep 9 3:23pm CT

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) is considered week-to-week because of the ankle injury he suffered during the Week 1 game, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Fantasy Spin: Njoku seems to be questionable for Week 2, but fantasy players will know more about his status later in the week. He is a starting fantasy option when healthy, but fantasy players will need another option ready in case Njoku is not able to play this upcoming week.

From TheHuddle

Sep 9 12:00pm CT

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has indicated that tight end David Njoku is week-to-week with an ankle injury. Njoku sustained the injury at the end of a 29-yard catch-and-run during the Browns' second drive of the third quarter. He briefly visited the medical tent before heading to the locker room, and although he was initially listed as questionable to return, he did not re-enter the game. Njoku finished with four catches for 44 yards. He was named to his first Pro Bowl last season after a standout year in which he set career highs with 81 receptions, 882 yards, and 6 touchdowns. With Njoku and Jordan Akins as the only tight ends on the roster, it appears Akins will take over starting duties until Njoku is back. Akins is currently not a recommended fantasy option and is likely to be a touchdown-or-bust candidate.
