Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was signed to the active roster on Tuesday. Hunt was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad after the loss of Isiah Pacheco (fibula). While he was inactive in Week 3, he appears to be on track to play in Week 4. Hunt returns to Kansas City after a productive five seasons in Cleveland. At 29 years old, Hunt is a relatively inefficient running back at this stage in his career. However, he has a nose for the end zone. In 2023, Hunt rushed for 411 yards and nine touchdowns. He was primarily a short yardage option and only averaged 3.0 yards per carry. With Samaje Perine and Carson Steele in line ahead of Hunt, he does not figure to have a lot of fantasy value. However, should either of those two players get hurt, Hunt should still have enough juice to be a solid flex play in fantasy football.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt was signed to the active roster from the practice squad, and RB Keaontay Ingram was released Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Fantasy Spin: Hunt now joins the backfield with Carson Steele and Samaje Perine. It's likely to be a heavy rotation with Steele working on early downs and Perine on passing downs. Where Hunt fits in isn't yet clear so it's best to temper expectations until the splits are revealed. Steele is an RB3 while Perine and Hunt can be viewed as RB4 types.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt won't be available for the upcoming Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. This doesn't come as much of a surprise after Hunt was signed by the team earlier this week. Hunt was a free agent until this point, so he'll need some time to get ready for football. In the meantime, Carson Steele figures to get increased chances as well as Samaje Perine. Keaontay Ingram was signed from the practice squad to the active roster, so he figures to be serve as extra depth. Fantasy managers are probably best off avoiding this situation for the moment, but Steele is probably the best of the trio for Week 3.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt will not play in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Fantasy Spin: Hunt was just added to the practice squad on Tuesday and has not played football in about eight or nine months. There is a decent chance he will join the active roster at some point next week, but there is no guarantee he will find his way into significant snaps anytime soon.

Kansas City Chiefs LB Cole Christiansen and RB Keaontay Ingram were promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Also, free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Browns) and TE Peyton Hendershot (Chiefs) were signed to the practice squad.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Wednesday that newly signed running back Kareem Hunt has a chance to play in Week 3 on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons. Starting RB Isiah Pacheco (leg) fractured his fibula in the Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals and is now sidelined for up to six to eight weeks. As a result, the Chiefs have reunited with Hunt, who had 453 carries for 2,151 yards (4.7 yards per carry) and 15 touchdowns while also catching 79 of 98 targets for 833 yards and 10 touchdowns as a pass-catcher in KC in his first two NFL seasons back in 2017-18. The 29-year-old is currently on the team's practice squad, but he could be elevated to the active roster by this Saturday to serve as more backfield depth alongside rookie Carson Steele and Samaje Perine as the Chiefs move forward without Pacheco. Because of his familiarity with the Chiefs, Hunt is worth a waiver-wire pickup for those hurting at the RB position early on in 2024.

Dynasty | The Chiefs have signed running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad. Dynasty Analysis: This is reunion few ever saw happening after the Chiefs unceremoniously cut him in his second season after a domestic violence video featuring Hunt surfaced. Apparently time heals all wounds as Hunt is all the way back where it started after spending most of his career as the "B" to Nick Chubb's "A" in Cleveland. Hunt is nowhere near the player he was in his first run with the Chiefs but he could make an impact if he impresses on the practice squad. He's roster worthy again but shouldn't be a huge priority on this week's waiver wire run, especially since it's being reported he underwent sports hernia surgery this off-season.
Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Browns) will reportedly join the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a source.
Fantasy Spin: It makes sense from a depth perspective, but the 29-year-old Hunt has not been a good running back in either of the last two seasons behind what was a good offensive line in Cleveland. While he is unlikely to be ready to play in Week 3, Hunt's eventual addition to the active roster likely robs any fantasy value every other healthy back in Kansas City (Carson Steele and Samaje Perine, most notably) had during Isiah Pacheco's stint on injured reserve.
From TheHuddle
Veteran free-agent running back Kareem Hunt is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad on Tuesday after visiting with them on Monday, according to a source. The Chiefs will bring in a familiar face at the position after it was announced that starting RB Isiah Pacheco (fibula) will miss the next six to eight weeks after suffering a fractured fibula in the Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Hunt was the Chiefs' third-round pick in 2017 and was named to the Pro Bowl his rookie season, when he had a league-high 1,327 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on a career-high 272 carries that year. He has spent the last five years in Cleveland, averaging 4.0 yards per carry while scoring 32 total touchdowns in 64 games. The 29-year-old has familiarity in KC's system and should eventually join rookie Carson Steele and Samaje Perine in the Chiefs backfield. Hunt is worth a waiver-wire pickup if you're hurting at RB.

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing in a familiar face for a visit on Tuesday. Kareem Hunt is set to visit the team after the Chiefs lost Isiah Pacheco (fibula) to a significant injury in yesterday's 26-25 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. With Pacheco expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a fractured fibula and Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football injury list (mental health), Carson Steele and Samaje Perine are the only two healthy running backs on the roster. Hunt hasn't played for the Chiefs since the 2018 season. However, the veteran running back averaged 7.4 half-point PPR fantasy points per game last year with the Cleveland Browns, totaling nine rushing touchdowns. If he signs with the team, Hunt, Steele, and Perine will all see meaningful touches until Pacheco is healthy.

Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Browns) has a visit with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, Sept. 17, according to sources.
Fantasy Spin: With Isiah Pacheco expected to miss up to two months, Hunt could provide some RB3 value if he takes the lead role in Kansas City.
