According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) won't play in Sunday's game against the Vikings. The 28-year-old had a massive Week 1 performance versus the Colts. Unfortunately, he injured his ankle in Sunday night's clash with the Chicago Bears. The former Bengal was listed as doubtful, so the latest update won't surprise fantasy managers. However, with NFL Media's Ian Rapoport also reporting Mixon is "week-to-week," nobody can say for sure if he'll return when the Texans play the Jags in Week 4. For those fortunate to have claimed Cam Akers off the waiver wire, he's a must-start in any fantasy format. While there's a chance Dare Ogunbowale gets Akers' leftovers out of the backfield, he doesn't offer the same upside for fantasy managers.

Sep 21 1:33pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was downgraded from doubtful to out for Week 3 on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Spin: With Dameon Pierce (hamstring) also ruled out, that leaves Cam Akers as the lead back for Week 3. We'll tentatively call him an RB2, but there's certainly RB1 upside there.

Sep 21 10:30am CT

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is considered "week-to-week." Dameon Pierce (hamstring) has already been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game versus the Minnesota Vikings. While Mixon is still officially classified as doubtful, the Texans already expect he won't be out there while hoping to get him back for the Week 4 matchup against the Jags, depending on how he responds to treatment. The former Bengal had a monster Week 1 outing against the Colts, so it's a tough blow for fantasy managers. With that said, Cam Akers has already seen a surge in interest from those looking for a streaming option this week. However, he's likely already been scooped off the waiver wire in most leagues. Dare Ogunbowale could see a few additional touches in Week 3. Unfortunately, he doesn't offer the same upside as Akers.

Sep 20 3:13pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 20, and is listed as doubtful for Week 3.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players can check the inactive list for his official status but should not count on him play this week. Cam Akers is in line to be the starting running back for the Texans and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 20 2:53pm CT

Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 3 versus the Minnesota Vikings. RB Joe Mixon (ankle) also did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful. OL Jarrett Patterson (calf) did not practice on Friday, Sept. 20, and is listed as questionable. C Juice Scruggs (groin) and S M.J. Stewart (knee) were limited in practice on Friday and are also listed as questionable. LB Azeez Al-Shaair (shin), CB Kris Boyd (hip), WR Nico Collins (hip, foot), DT Folorunso Fatukasi (shoulder), CB Kamari Lassiter (elbow) and TE Dalton Schultz (ankle) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

Also, LB Azeez Al-Shaair (shin), CB Kris Boyd (hip), WR Nico Collins (hip, foot), DL Folorunso Fatukasi (shoulder), OL Jarrett Patterson (calf), OL Juice Scruggs (groin) and DB M.J. Sep 19 12:20pm CT

Houston Texans running backs Joe Mixon (ankle) and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) are not practicing on Thursday. With both Mixon and Pierce sidelined so far this week, Cam Akers has operated as the team's starting tailback as preparations continue for a Week 3 showdown against the 2-0 Minnesota Vikings. The Texans consider Mixon day-to-day as of now, and Pierce is dealing with a mild hamstring injury, although it was enough to keep him sidelined for the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night. As things stand now, Houston's backfield situation is in flux heading into this Sunday's contest. If both Mixon and Pierce are unavailable, Akers would become at least a flex play in fantasy lineups, with Dare Ogunbowale and British Brooks backing him up. With Pierce inactive last Sunday, Akers made his Texans debut and had seven carries for 32 yards while catching one pass for three yards.

Sep 19 12:13pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is not practicing Thursday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Managers will want to find a potential pivot option for Mixon given the way he's trending. With Dameon Pierce (hamstring) also out of practice, Cam Akers appears to be the lead back and has fringe RB2 value if that's the case this week.

From TheHuddle

Sep 18 1:20pm CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is not practicing on Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury in the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears. The former Cincinnati Bengal had a fantastic Week 1 performance against the Indianapolis Colts, posting 178 total yards and a touchdown on 33 touches. In Week 2, he only racked up 50 total yards on 12 touches. Backup running back Dameon Pierce (hamstring) missed Week 2 and is also not practicing on Wednesday. If Mixon plays, he's still likely a strong starting option against the Minnesota Vikings, but if he and Pierce miss Sunday's game, Cam Akers will enter the fantasy radar as a flex consideration. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Mixon's status throughout the week.

From RotoBaller

Sep 18 1:03pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is not practicing on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and is considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon still has time to get right before Week 3, but fantasy owners should start making other plans. With Dameon Pierce (hamstring) also dealing with an injury, Cam Akers would end up getting the bulk of the work should both Mixon and Pierce sit. He would be a flex option in that scenario.

From TheHuddle

Sep 17 12:10pm CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) injured his ankle in the Sunday night win over the Chicago Bears, but his injury isn't considered a long-term one after he underwent an MRI exam on Monday, according to league sources. Mixon left the game under his own power before limping into the medical tent, and he eventually returned to the game. The 28-year-old only played seven offensive snaps after returning to the contest and finished with just nine carries for 25 yards while catching three of five targets for 25 yards through the air. Mixon's status for the Week 3 contest against the Minnesota Vikings is unknown at this time, but we should have a better idea of his availability once the team resumes practicing on Wednesday. If Mixon is limited at all or out this weekend, Cam Akers and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) would be in line for bigger roles.

Sep 16 4:13pm CT

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was scheduled to undergo an MRI on his injured ankle Monday, Sept. 16, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players will need to monitor Mixon's practice participation this week to see if he will be able to play in Week 3. He is off to a strong start to the season and should be a starting option in all leagues if he is cleared to play.

From TheHuddle

Sep 16 10:20am CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) will undergo an MRI on Monday after getting hip drop tackled in Sunday night's 19-13 win over the Chicago Bears. Mixon left the game but returned to the contest after the injury. While he managed to return, Cam Akers saw more workload after Mixon suffered the injury, including a handful of rushing attempts near the goal line. Hopefully, the veteran running back won't miss significant time with the injury, especially after Dameon Pierce (hamstring) missed Sunday's matchup against the Bears, leaving Akers as the No. 2 running back. If Mixon and Pierce can't play in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings, Akers is a borderline must-add off the waiver wire.

From RotoBaller

Sep 16 8:33am CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) will be evaluated Monday, Sept. 16, after suffering a sprained ankle Sunday night.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon had his toe stuck in the ground while a defender came down on the ankle. He returned to the game but was not the same. It's premature to assess anything, but it looked like something that could linger. Cam Akers rushed seven times for 32 yards last night and could be in line for a bigger role, depending on Dameon Pierce's (hamstring) status.

From TheHuddle

Sep 16 1:03am CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) carried the ball nine times for 25 yards against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Sept. 15. He added three receptions (on five targets) for 25 yards. As previously noted, he suffered an ankle injury during the game, and while he did return, he did not resume a full workload.

Fantasy Spin: You'll need to take Mixon's production with a grain of salt given what happened to his ankle, and clearly the team was concerned about his condition since they used Cam Akers with a chance to salt the game away deep in Bears territory. Akers fumbled, Chicago recovered, and the Texans had to hang on for a one-score victory. Keep an eye on Mixon's status heading into Week 3. If he's ready to roll, Mixon belongs right back in your lineup as an RB2. If not, Akers and/or Dameon Pierce (hamstring), who didn't play Sunday night because of a hamstring injury, should handle the backfield duties.

Sep 15 11:10pm CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) rushed nine times for 25 yards during Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears. He also got involved in the passing attack, hauling in three of his five targets for another 25 yards through the air. He finished Week 2 with 50 scrimmage yards but zero touchdowns. The veteran running back had a solid day, but he likely would have been even more productive if he hadn't missed most of the third quarter due to a back injury. The Texans listed him as questionable and kept him on the sideline for a couple of drives, but he did eventually return in the final minute of the third quarter. Going forward, fantasy managers will want to monitor Mixon's status in case the injury lingers and prevents him from practicing at all during the week. He heads into Week 3 versus the Vikings as a decent RB2 option in fantasy football.

From RotoBaller

Sep 15 10:03pm CT

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was able to return to the lineup in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears late in the third quarter.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon missed a good chunk of the third quarter after what looked like a possible hip-drop tackle, sending the talented back to the locker room. We'll see if he can finish out, and finish up strong. The good news is that he is back.

From TheHuddle

Sep 15 10:00pm CT

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bears. The former Bengal had a stellar Week 1 showing against the Colts. While he hasn't been as potent in Week 2, he still amassed 20 yards off seven carries, adding three grabs for 25 yards. The Texans were already thin at the running back spot heading into Sunday night, with Dameon Pierce (hamstring) inactive. But if Mixon is ruled out, Houston will rely on Dare Ogunbowale and Cam Akers to carry the backfield for the remainder of the contest.

From RotoBaller

Sep 15 9:43pm CT

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) suffered an apparent right ankle injury in the third quarter of the Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears, and he initially headed to the blue medical tent before eventually heading to the locker room.

Fantasy Spin: With Mixon off, and Dameon Pierce already inactive, journeyman Cam Akers is in the backfield for Houston, with Dare Ogunbowale is also up for the team. If Mixon is out, it appears Akers is next in line.

From TheHuddle

Sep 10 12:00pm CT

Texans' RB Joe Mixon scored 26.80 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 1 win in Indianapolis. Mixon ran for 159 yards and caught three passes for 19 yards with one touchdown. It's the 1st time this season Mixon scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.
